The Product Development Engineer will serve as a technical expert and escalation point for troubleshooting, incident response, and platform optimization. In addition, this role will mentor engineers on the team, help establish best practices in observability and automation, and partner with BI/reporting teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient analytics platforms.
The core responsibilities for the job include the following:
Platform Administration:
Administer and optimize BI/analytics platforms, including Snowflake, MicroStrategy SaaS, Qlik, Looker, and Semarchy.
Lead upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal disruption.
Manage user access, security settings, and integrations with upstream/downstream systems.
Observability and Troubleshooting:
Implement and maintain monitoring, alarms, and dashboards (Datadog, CloudWatch) for BI platforms.
Troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and stability issues across applications and data connections.
Drive proactive detection and resolution of issues to minimize downtime.
Incident Response and Root Cause Analysis:
Act as the technical lead during high-severity incidents affecting BI platforms.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and drive corrective and preventative measures.
Document lessons learned and improve runbooks/playbooks for future incidents.
Automation and Optimization:
Develop scripts and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Python, etc. ) to automate platform administration and monitoring tasks.
Optimize BI platform usage for cost efficiency and performance.
Technical Leadership and Mentorship:
Serve as a mentor to junior engineers, providing guidance on troubleshooting, platform administration, and automation practices.
Contribute to knowledge sharing through documentation, training, and runbooks.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
6+ years of experience in BI/analytics platform support or infrastructure engineering, with at least 2+ years in a senior or lead role.
Hands-on experience administering Snowflake, MicroStrategy SaaS, Qlik, Looker, or Semarchy.
Strong expertise with AWS services relevant to BI platforms (RDS, S3 Lambda, IAM, VPC).
Proficiency in observability tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, or Prometheus) for monitoring and alerting.
Proven track record of incident response and root cause analysis for high-severity platform incidents.
Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc. ) for automation.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate across engineering and BI/reporting teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications such as MicroStrategy Certified System Administrator (Cloud), Qlik Sense System Administrator, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate.
Experience supporting CI/CD workflows (GitLab, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) for BI or analytics platform deployments.
Familiarity with AIOps or automated monitoring practices to improve platform stability and reduce manual effort.
Background in large-scale enterprise BI environments, ensuring performance, scalability, and security.
