We're searching for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Riskhandler Engineering team in Bengaluru, India (open to relocation). The Riskhandler platform is a business-critical commercial lines insurance rating and quoting system, serving insurance brokers across the UK and Ireland. Our team owns the product end-to-end, from the backend rating engine to the REST API layer to data, and we're in the middle of an exciting technical evolution: modernizing from a. NET Framework 4.8 foundation toward an API-first, cloud-ready architecture powered by. NET Core and React. To keep us headed in the right direction, we're looking for people who approach every problem with curiosity and rigor, who take genuine ownership of their work, and who see complexity as an opportunity rather than an obstacle. If you love digging into systems, finding elegant solutions, and helping the people around you grow, this role was written with you in mind.
Responsibilities:
Design, build, and maintain features on the Riskhandler insurance rating and quoting platform (C# / VB. NET / ASP. NET Web API).
Contribute to our API-first modernization roadmap, including REST API layer enhancements, CQRS pattern adoption, and early-stage migration planning toward. NET Core and React.
Write clean, testable, and maintainable code; actively participate in code reviews and hold the team to high quality standards.
Collaborate with product managers, architects, QA engineers, and UK-based stakeholders to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
Diagnose and resolve complex defects across the full stack: backend services, data layer, and front-end.
Contribute to and help evolve our Playwright (TypeScript) test automation framework.
Drive improvements in engineering practices, coding standards, and design patterns across the team.
Mentor junior developers, lead technical discussions, and play an active role in architecture decisions.
Identify and champion opportunities for technical improvement in an open, collaborative way.
Requirements:
Education: BE / B. Tech / M. Tech / MCA / MSc (Computer Science or related discipline).
Experience: 8-9+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
Strong C# and. NET (Framework or Core); this is our non-negotiable. Deep OOP fundamentals are essential: inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, and SOLID principles.
REST API development; experience designing and building ASP. NET Web APIs with a solid grasp of HTTP, REST conventions, and integration patterns.
SQL: confident in writing complex queries and stored procedures; comfortable understanding and evolving data models.
JavaScript / TypeScript; solid working knowledge of the modern JS/TS ecosystem; ability to contribute to front-end work and understand client-side architecture.
Analytical and problem-solving mindset; you think in systems, spot edge cases, evaluate trade-offs, and propose solutions that are both pragmatic and well-reasoned.
End-to-end ownership; you take a feature from design discussion through to production, monitor it, iterate on it, and feel responsible for its quality.
Strong communication and collaboration skills; you can articulate technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements:
Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks; React preferred; Angular also valued. We're on the path to React and want someone who can grow with us.
Experience or exposure to. NET Core /. NET 6+; even if from a side project or POC.
Knowledge of VB. NET: part of our existing codebase is in VB. NET; not a requirement, but being comfortable reading it is a plus.
Understanding of architectural patterns: CQRS, MediatR, dependency injection, layered architecture, and patterns we are actively adopting.
Experience working in a legacy modernization context; you know how to balance keeping the lights on while incrementally improving the architecture.
Genuine passion for learning and adaptability: technology will evolve, and so will our stack; we want someone who leans into that.
You May Also Have Experience With:
GitLab CI/CD, Octopus Deploy, or similar pipeline tooling.
Playwright / TypeScript for UI test automation.
Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure): nice to have; we are not yet in the cloud, but it is on the horizon.
Insurance or financial services domain knowledge: understanding of commercial lines insurance products and workflows is a bonus.
