A Senior Design for Manufacturing Mechanical engineer focuses on mechanical/thermal components and assembly readiness. As a team, we support all products NVIDIA SPT develops. Your contribution will be to manufacturing DFM (design for manufacturing) and DFA (Design for assembly) development, finding MFD (Manufacturing for design) solutions, driving manufacturing feedback to Engineering and implementing industry best practice to ensure smooth system integration in manufacturing. You will be working concurrently with NVIDIA hardware engineering teams, component suppliers and CEM, to develop detailed solutions to address DFM/DFA exceptions via prototyping analysis and fixture designs, starting from conception phase, through new product introduction (NPI) and to mass production. Additionally, engaging mechanical component suppliers and CEM early to study the design to develop manufacturing maturity at the same pace of product design. The majority of your time will be spent at factories and suppliers reviewing and improving their manufacturing implementation.
What you’ll be doing:
Key driver of mechanical supplier and contract manufacturer (CEM) readiness to ensure that all processes, tools, and fixtures realize the mechanical design intent at highest possible quality and yield
Working with the NVIDIA SPT mechanical team to understand the critical to function requirements for systems and components to ensure that manufacturing partner processes support the design intent
Perform detailed DFM and DFA analysis and liaison to NVIDIA SPT mechanical engineering team and provide solutions using best industry practice
Work with NVIDIA SPT mechanical engineering team to under
Identify and lead efforts to find solutions to problems that are or might adversely affect quality, yield and manufacturability, evaluate risks and apply corrective action to optimize manufacturability for the mechanical and system design
Work with mechanical suppliers and CEMs to establish manufacturing specifications, audit implementation of the production processes
Gathering feedback on DFx as well as yield and quality issues, study manufacturability and efficiency on production and repair center activities to improve workflow and efficiency (find yield opportunities)
Evaluate assembly fixture & jig development, assembly specification review, assembly process step-by-step evaluation and validation
Coordinate the purchase of special equipment, materials and other parts to ensure they meet intended use, specifications and quality standards
Recommend technology aids, product design changes and workspace layout modification to existing processes to achieve optimum quality and efficiency
What we need to see:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience, with 10+ years of relevant experience.
Strong mechanical product design and manufacturing background with hands-on DFM/DFA experience and a track record of design optimization.
Solid understanding of materials, metallurgy, plastics, solid mechanics, manufacturing processes, and product development; server experience is a plus.
Experience driving NPI and manufacturing process development across multiple workstreams simultaneously.
Practical knowledge of system assembly, system testing, tolerance analysis, and GD&T for complex assemblies.
Understanding of manufacturing technologies, mechanical testing and inspection methods, thermal considerations, and basic electrical principles.
Proficiency with Creo or equivalent CAD software.
Strong problem-solving, project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges.
