Job Summary
Supports laboratory and engine test cell operations through the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and setup of facility mechanical systems, test equipment, and associated infrastructure. The role ensures safe, reliable, and effective operation of laboratory and engine test cell facilities while supporting testing activities, equipment readiness, data integrity, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The position works closely with engineering, testing, maintenance, and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot equipment and instrumentation issues, execute preventive and predictive maintenance, support engine test cell setups, and ensure compliance with applicable safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of facility mechanical systems, including HVAC systems, heating and refrigeration equipment, air-conditioning and building ventilation systems, air compressors, heat exchangers, hydraulic equipment, and other laboratory infrastructure.
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot machine tools, test stands, dynamometer systems, and associated laboratory equipment.
Support engine test cell installation, rigging, instrumentation setup, and test cycle preparation in accordance with approved test plans, procedures, and safety requirements.
Perform test cell instrumentation setup, including measurement instruments, data logging systems, sensors, and associated equipment required for engine testing.
Support ECM test cell harness wiring, engine ECM software interfaces, and troubleshooting of ECM fault codes and sensor-related issues.
Configure and update test cell specifications and setup files in accordance with approved test plans and engine installation requirements.
Support engine test cell software platforms and tools such as PUMA, Cyflex, and Indicom, as applicable.
Support ECM-related activities using tools such as Calterm, ASAM, and License Configuration Tool, as applicable.
Troubleshoot breakdowns and performance issues involving test cell instruments and equipment such as smoke meters, flow meters, fuel conditioning systems, and other test infrastructure.
Perform preventive and predictive maintenance based on equipment condition, maintenance records, and operating data to improve equipment reliability and availability.
Demonstrate an understanding of test equipment functionality and its impact on the accuracy and validity of test results.
Prepare and configure test equipment and test setups in accordance with established test procedures, engineering standards, and laboratory requirements.
Support measurement and data acquisition activities while ensuring equipment readiness and data integrity following engine installation.
Perform mechanical rigging, system wiring, and installation activities required to prepare engines and test systems for testing.
Participate in engine test preparation, troubleshooting, breakdown recovery, and restoration of test equipment to operational condition.
Support Right First Time (RFT) practices and ensure engine and test cell setup activities meet defined quality requirements.
Participate in Kaizen, continuous improvement, and other operational excellence initiatives to improve laboratory and test cell reliability, safety, productivity, and efficiency.
Coordinate maintenance and facility programs, including planning, scheduling, ordering, tracking, and completion of required activities.
Maintain appropriate maintenance, test setup, and equipment documentation and records.
Participate in quality procedures, self-audits, corrective actions, and improvement projects.
Ensure compliance with all applicable Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with engineering, laboratory, maintenance, and other functional teams to resolve technical and operational issues.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to support laboratory and test cell operations.
Skills and Experience Needed
Some relevant experience in facility maintenance, industrial maintenance, laboratory operations, engine testing, test cell support, or a related technical field.
Working knowledge of mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and repair.
Experience with engine test cell equipment, test stands, dynamometers, or laboratory systems is preferred.
Working knowledge of engine test cell instrumentation systems and test parameter setup.
Experience with engine rigging and instrumentation installation is preferred.
Knowledge of mechanical rigging, system wiring, and test cycle preparation.
Experience using measurement instruments and data acquisition/data logging systems.
Knowledge of ECM test cell harness wiring, sensors, and engine control systems.
Familiarity with PUMA, Cyflex, or Indicom test cell software platforms is an advantage.
Familiarity with Calterm, ASAM, or License Configuration Tool for ECM-related activities is an advantage.
Ability to troubleshoot ECM fault codes, sensors, test instruments, and mechanical/electrical systems.
Experience maintaining and troubleshooting test cell equipment such as smoke meters, flow meters, fuel conditioning systems, and related instrumentation is preferred.
Ability to understand and interpret test plans and translate requirements into practical test cell setups.
Ability to maintain equipment and test systems while ensuring data integrity and Right First Time (RFT) execution.
Strong hands-on troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Good documentation and reporting skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision while effectively collaborating with engineering and cross-functional teams.
Strong communication, multitasking, planning, and time-management skills.
Exposure to Kaizen, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, or similar operational excellence initiatives is preferred.
Functional Competencies
Facility Mechanical Systems
Working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, compressors, heat exchangers, hydraulic systems, and other facility mechanical equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain laboratory and facility equipment.
Test Cell Equipment and Systems
Understanding of engine test cell infrastructure, test stands, dynamometers, rigging, and associated mechanical systems.
Ability to interpret test requirements and prepare equipment and test setups accordingly.
Test Setup and Configuration
Ability to interpret test plans and determine appropriate equipment, instrumentation, installation requirements, and test configurations.
Ability to configure and prepare test systems while considering safety, environmental, and technical requirements.
Instrumentation and Data Acquisition
Working knowledge of measurement instruments, sensors, instrumentation systems, and data logging equipment.
Ability to verify equipment readiness and support reliable data acquisition and test results.
ECM and Controls Support
Knowledge of engine ECMs, test cell harness wiring, sensors, and control systems.
Ability to troubleshoot ECM fault codes and sensor-related issues.
Familiarity with ECM software and diagnostic tools such as Calterm, ASAM, and License Configuration Tool is advantageous.
Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
Interprets maintenance records and equipment data to execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
Identifies potential equipment failures and takes appropriate action to improve reliability and minimize downtime.

Uses structured troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and test equipment issues.
