BackEnd Team Lead/Site Lead
Location: Galway Ireland
Type: Permanent Full Time
Job Description Summary
Backend Team Lead & Site Lead
We're looking for a strong, hands-on Backend Team Lead with a passion for technical excellence and leadership. In this role, you serve as the technical owner of one or more domains within the product—driving architecture, design, and code quality while mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
You'll lead both by influence and through direct people management—partnering closely with Product Leads and Domain Architects to ensure scalable, maintainable, and high-performing solutions. You'll balance hands-on technical work with guiding others, setting engineering standards, and shaping the technical roadmap.
As Site Lead, you'll also serve as the onsite leader, responsible for all Zerto employees at the location. Beyond your technical domain, you'll help establish the site's culture, act as the local point of contact across functions, and ensure a productive, engaged, and collaborative work environment as the site grows.
What You'll Be Doing
Technical Leadership
Own the technical quality, design, and roadmap for your domain(s).
Make AI adoption one of the core principles of the new team by championing the practical use of AI tools and practices in day-to-day engineering to improve productivity, quality, and continuous learning.
Drive engineering best practices through design reviews, code reviews, and technical mentoring.
Contribute to architectural discussions and cross-domain alignment.
Tackle technical challenges—performance, fault-tolerance, and live production issues.
Foster a culture of learning, innovation, and technical excellence.
Delivery & Project Management
Plan and deliver features, ensuring resources are appropriately allocated and that goals and timelines are met in line with organizational roadmaps.
Collaborate with Product Leads on prioritization, backlog, and feasibility decisions.
Proactively identify process improvement and cost-reduction opportunities, achieving operational excellence through metrics and continuous learning.
Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, setting expectations regarding deliverables, quality, schedules, and costs.
People Management
Provide direct and ongoing leadership for a team of individual contributors designing, developing, and sustaining products, enhancements, and updates.
Participate in recruiting and hiring for the new team, helping assess technical capabilities, ownership mindset, and cultural fit.
Own people management for your team—including onboarding, performance goal setting, coaching, and career development.
Build a best-in-class engineering team that delivers excellent results.
Site Leadership
As Zerto’s first group in Ireland, operating as an extension of the Israeli office, serve as the on-site leader for all Zerto employees at the new site. Represent the company locally, foster a positive and inclusive site culture, and take responsibility for learning the product, architecture, and business flows from the ground up in order to effectively enable and grow the new team.
Act as the primary local point of contact across functions (HR, IT, Facilities, and management), ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Support onboarding, engagement, and well-being of employees at the site, helping to build a strong sense of community as the site scales.
Partner with global stakeholders and leadership to align the site with company goals, values, and standards.
Champion site-wide initiatives, events, and communication to strengthen collaboration and belonging.
Must Have
At least 10 years of C# experience in complex, multi-threaded, performance-critical programming.
Strong knowledge of Linux and virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V and openshift
AI adopter with proven hands-on experience applying generative AI tools to streamline software development, a continuous-learning mindset, and enthusiasm for using modern AI tools to improve engineering workflows.
Deep expertise in software systems design, development methodologies, and integration across diverse platforms and technologies.
Proven experience leading large features and designs from rough ideas and requirements through development and into production.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional environments, including negotiation, presentation, and influence.
Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team building, and conflict resolution.
Advanced project management skills, including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.
Experienced and innovative problem-solver.
Demonstrated ability to lead and represent employees across functions, ideally as a site or on-site leader, fostering culture and cross-team collaboration
Education and Experience
Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
Typically 10 years of experience, including a minimum of 4 years of people management experience.
Nice to Have

Direct impact on the roadmap of the core component in the product.
Working on an enterprise-grade product serving over 12,000 customers and protecting much of the world's key infrastructure.
