Description supplied by the original job listing.

Do you have expertise in oncology medical affairs and a passion for scientific strategy in breast cancer? Would you like to apply your expertise to support launch readiness, external engagement and medical strategy in a company that follows the science and turns ideas into life-changing medicines? Then AstraZeneca might be the one for you!
ABOUT ASTRAZENECA
AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development and commercialisation of prescription medicines, primarily for the treatment of diseases in four therapy areas – Oncology; Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM); Respiratory & Immunology (R&I); and Rare Disease.
At AstraZeneca Australia, we have been working to deliver the best value to patients for more than 60 years, and we push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines.
Our Australia and New Zealand Medical Affairs function is an industry-leading team transforming care. It generates and communicates compelling medical evidence. This evidence changes medical practice and develops AstraZeneca’s strategic direction. Within this environment, the breast cancer program is a strategically important and scientifically rich area of the business. Significant activity related to the period before and during launch is planned over the next 12–18 months.
This permanent role, based in our Macquarie Park, Sydney office, offers scientific and medical mentorship across a breast cancer product or therapeutic area. The position ensures that local medical requirements are fulfilled for product and therapy area materials. It also supports developing and carrying out the Medical Affairs Plan. You will work across Medical, Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory and broader cross-functional teams, contributing to launch readiness, medical strategy, scientific exchange and evidence generation in a highly visible and fast-moving precision medicine environment.
What you'll do
Provide scientific and medical leadership across the breast cancer portfolio, helping shape strategy and support impactful pre-launch, launch and post-launch activities.
Develop and handle the execution of the Medical Affairs Plan, including confidence and evidence generation activities, as well as initiatives that strengthen healthcare ecosystems and improve treatment outcomes.
Act as a medical and scientific guide within the local marketing company, providing strategic input into therapeutic area and product direction and ensuring medical plans align with broader business objectives.
Engage in scientific exchange with healthcare professionals, external experts and other partners, building trusted relationships and generating insights that inform medical and commercial strategies.
Support educational initiatives, development of clinical support tools, launch planning and the medical review of therapy area and product materials.
Contribute to activities such as reimbursement support, regulatory submissions, patient-focused initiatives and the development of differentiated scientific narratives, particularly in areas such as biomarkers and precision medicine.
Collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams to identify, activate and support initiatives that influence healthcare practices to improve patient care and strengthen the healthcare ecosystem.
Essential for the role
Science degree or relevant experience and/or master’s degree or relevant experience in a scientific field.
Extensive experience within Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry, with strong preference for oncology and ideally breast cancer expertise.
Strong understanding of medical, clinical development and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated experience contributing to medical strategy and supporting pre-launch and launch activities.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex science clearly and credibly.
Extensive experience in stakeholder management and working effectively in a matrix cross-functional environment.
Planning and managing projects effectively.
Desirable for the role
Doctoral degree or equivalent experience in a scientific field such as MD, PhD or PharmD.
Strong background in precision medicine, biomarkers, genomics or broader oncology science.
Experience with basic research, drug discovery and development, and lifecycle management.
Innovative and committed to finding effective approaches.
Experience in ecosystem-based projects or healthcare practice-shaping initiatives.
Prior experience as a Senior MSL or Medical Manager in oncology.
