Leads the independent risk oversight, governance, and strategic risk management of Citi Community Capital's lending and investment portfolio.
The Credit Risk role is focused on analyzing the creditworthiness of individuals and entities, assigning risk ratings, recommending, or approving credit extensions or withdrawals, and providing ongoing monitoring of credit exposures. Individuals within this role maintain a balance between risk and return, ensuring that credit policies are appropriate, and perform regular in-depth reviews of the portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and independent risk oversight for Citi Community Capital’s (CCC) lending and investment, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, and managed within approved risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the approval and oversight framework for new transactions and portfolio management, delivering effective challenge and sound risk-based decision making across the CCC portfolio.
- Direct the governance, policies, standards, and risk management processes supporting community development finance and related investment activities.
- Serve as the senior risk partner to business, regulatory, audit, and executive stakeholders, representing the function on significant risk matters, examinations, strategic initiatives, and remediation activities.
- Build and develop a high-performing team, providing leadership, talent development, resource planning, and cross-functional coordination while fostering a strong risk culture and adherence to Citi policies and regulatory expectations.
- Lead, own and drive improvements in large regional/industry/product and key risk reviews, leveraging expertise to critically evaluate portfolios and assess emerging risks.
- Partner with all relevant teams including ICM, Banking and 2nd LOD organizations to monitor portfolio (including driving overall limits, mitigation strategies, exposure management).
- Critically evaluate and own assigned large/complex portfolios, identifying and assessing current/ emerging risks.
- Review, challenge and approve very large and / or complex episodic transactions that involve high idiosyncratic risks
- Lead the enhancement of credit risk processes and standards, identifying opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
- Provide independent assessments on risk ratings and classifications, ensuring the Risk Appetite framework's appropriateness and effectiveness.
- Evaluate and refine business/risk staffing models, ensuring optimal resource allocation for assigned entities.
- Assist the Risk Head in orchestrating regional and global tasks, developing strategic plans to maximize organizational effectiveness.
- Develop strategic plans to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.
- Collaborate with other credit risk families to support the best outcome for Citi, sharing and implementing best practices.
- Manage relationships and expectations of external regulators, Regulatory reporting, Risk, Finance, and Accounting Policy.
- Own relevant scorecards and underwriting frameworks.
- Make informed business decisions, considering risk assessment, the firm's reputation, and compliance with laws, rules, and regulations.
- Enforce compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, upholding policy and ethical business practices

Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience, including 5+ years' managerial experience
- Deep expertise in credit risk management
- Experience within special credits, commercial real estate, and or community development finance is preferred.
- Strong strategic, analytical, and risk governance capabilities with experience managing complex portfolios and transactions.
- Experience managing remote teams and operating in location remote from direct manager.
- Internally and externally recognized subject matter expert with a broad and comprehensive understanding of the field.
- Develops new techniques, methodologies, and approaches, recognized as a resource for innovation and groundbreaking developments.
- Comprehensive understanding of credit risk frameworks
- Knowledge of real estate finance, securitization, leveraged finance, affordable housing, and community development lending.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, risk frameworks, and industry practices applicable to lending and investment activities.
- Proficiency in evaluating complex issues with substantial impact, utilizing in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Proven ability to lead large teams, influence senior stakeholders, and drive strategic decision-making across functions.
- Strong people leadership skills with a track record of developing talent, fostering collaboration, and promoting a strong risk culture.
