Overview
Mastercard is developing the standards that will define trust in the next generation of digital commerce. As blockchain and digital assets evolve, industry-wide standards are critical to ensuring security, interoperability, and scalable adoption across ecosystems.
The Industry Standards team is responsible for shaping, driving, and operationalizing global standards that underpin Mastercard’s role in secure digital transactions. This includes active leadership in emerging blockchain and digital asset standards bodies, ensuring Mastercard influences the baseline frameworks that the ecosystem adopts.
We are seeking a Manager, Industry Standards to help drive Mastercard’s strategy and engagement in blockchain, cryptocurrency, and digital asset standards translating emerging standards into practical, adoptable frameworks that support ecosystem trust and commercial scalability.
Role
In this role, you will define and execute Mastercard’s approach to blockchain and digital asset standards. You will represent Mastercard across key industry forums, shape the direction of emerging standards, and ensure alignment with Mastercard’s broader security, product, and regulatory objectives.
You will focus on driving real industry impact, translating standards into usable constructs such as assurance models, certifications, and integration frameworks that enable adoption at scale.
Responsibilities
• Support Mastercard’s engagement with global blockchain and digital asset standards bodies (e.g., BSSC, ISO, ANSI), influencing the development of security and operational standards
• Define Mastercard positions on emerging topics such as blockchain security, digital asset controls, and interoperability frameworks
• Help lead the operationalization of blockchain security standards into measurable controls, conformance criteria, assessment methodologies, certification programs, and audit frameworks that support ecosystem-wide adoption.
• Partner across internal teams (Security Solutions, Blockchain & Digital Assets, Legal, Product) to align standards strategy to business priorities
• Help define approaches for security assurance, independent assessment, conformance validation, and trust signaling for blockchain ecosystems.
• Build and maintain relationships with industry peers, regulators, and ecosystem partners shaping blockchain standards
• Support thought leadership and market engagement to drive awareness and adoption of standards (e.g., industry forums, publications, webinars)
Experiences
• Expertise in cybersecurity, payments, or digital asset ecosystems, with strong understanding of blockchain technologies and risk models
• Ability to translate complex technical standards into practical, business-aligned outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to operate in emerging, ambiguous domains and shape strategic direction
• Comfortable navigating both technical and policy discussions across global forums
• Familiarity with blockchain security disciplines such as key management, smart contract security, node operations, custody, digital asset infrastructure, or related domains.
• Experience participating in standards development organizations, industry consortia, regulatory initiatives, or technical working groups.
• Working knowledge of security and control frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI, cryptographic assurance programs, or equivalent.
