HEAVY FLEET MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR (STARSHIP)
The Heavy Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of technicians supporting Starship and Super Heavy fleet operations. This role is the primary on-site driver of hour-by-hour and day-by-day progress for critical heavy-lift and transport activities that enable fleet readiness and vehicle movements. The Supervisor takes requests from engineering and various fleet owning teams and executes by building, retaining, and managing a high-performing team; allocating labor and fleet assets; prioritizing repairs and critical path needs; and owning maintenance based operational metrics. The Supervisor is a key enabler of a productive, fun, and hard-working culture and is expected to be an inspiring leader who frequently works side-by-side with the fleet maintenance team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage a team of technicians specializing in a large variety of equipment repair
Lead and manage staff technicians, including all performance management, coaching, and development activities
Oversee fleet asset utilization for both heavy and light duty equipment. This includes, but is not limited to; key management software, telematics devices, and various third party management software
Review work orders, repair data, inventory practices; recommend changes to improve safety, efficiency, and asset utilization
Assess and vet skillsets required for fleet operations; identify training needs and develop or deliver training programs for the team and fleet equipment operators
Provide data and reporting on fleet metrics, equipment utilization, labor hours, and improvement objectives
Monitor labor hours, overtime, and fleet asset downtime; implement improvement plans for time management, productivity, and equipment availability
Drive operational results by communicating clear expectations for customer communications, repair quality, and repair timeliness, and job performance; plan, monitor, and appraise results
Organize, assign, and track work/deliverables across the team to ensure seamless multi-shift progression of fleet operations
Foster cooperation within and between multiple departments including; production, engineering, and other support departments
Ensure quality and conformance of equipment to repair specifications and safety standards
Maintain inventory of tooling, spare parts, and any equipment needed for consistent fleet operations
Improve safety, efficiency, and fleet asset reliability through regular audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
Continuously improve process efficiency, manpower utilization, equipment productivity, and overall fleet readiness
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalency certificate
8+ years of experience in Fleet Operations (preferably supporting vehicle or large-asset fleets)
3+ years of experience leading Repair/Technician teams in a high-tempo operational environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Strong understanding of all types of equipment with an emphasis in fleet heavy-lift assets
Ability to analyze repair quality metrics and repair timeliness data
Strong working knowledge of heavy lift equipment and repair needs for fleet operations
Experience managing equipment fleets, utilization metrics, preventive maintenance coordination, or heavy asset logistics
Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging, multi-shift fleet operations environment
Strong history with vendor communication and maintaining communication with multiple stakeholders
Proven ability to drive safety, reliability, and continuous improvement of heavy equipment fleets
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing to work long hours, nights, and weekends with limited notice to meet the business needs
Provide 24/7 on-call support of all critical activities and emergency situations
Stand: Up to 6 hours per day
Sit: Up to 6 hours per day
Push/Pull: Up to 75lbs. (unassisted) 15 minutes or less per day
Overhead reach: Up to 6 hours per day
Walk: Up to 6 hours per day
