About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Credit Risk Director as part of Wells Fargo's Independent Risk Management organization and second line of defense. This leader is responsible for the independent oversight of Consumer Banking deposit products, with a primary focus on new account onboarding, account approval practices, overdraft risk and recovery, and portfolio performance. The Credit Risk Director will work closely with business, product, operations, compliance, legal, fraud, and risk partners to support responsible growth while ensuring risks are appropriately identified, assessed, monitored, and managed. This role also provides strategic insights to senior leaders and governance committees regarding the evolving deposit credit risk landscape, emerging risks, risk trends, and portfolio performance. In this role, you will:
Provide independent second line credit risk oversight for Consumer Banking deposit products, with a focus on customer acquisition, onboarding strategies, account approval practices, and portfolio performance.
Lead and develop a team of risk professionals responsible for independent oversight of Consumer Banking deposit products.
Oversee deposit credit risk exposures, including overdraft strategies, customer eligibility criteria, and account opening risk.
Evaluate business strategies, growth initiatives, and product enhancements to ensure risks are appropriately identified, assessed, and managed.
Provide effective oversight of loss forecasts, strategy changes, portfolio trends, key assumptions, and emerging risk indicators.
Oversee credit risk governance and policy frameworks, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and enterprise risk standards.
Partner across Product, Operations, Fraud, Compliance, Legal, and Business teams to drive sound risk-based decisions and effective risk management practices.
Provide strategic insights to senior leaders and governance committees regarding the evolving deposit credit risk landscape, emerging risks, risk trends, and portfolio performance.
Communicate a clear view of the deposit credit risk landscape, including material risks, emerging issues, and portfolio performance.
Influence senior executives and governance committees through credible challenge, strategic insights, and effective risk communication.
Deliver thought leadership pertaining to changes in business operations and corresponding impacts to the organization’s risk profile.
Foster a high-performing culture focused on accountability, risk discipline, talent development, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of Credit Risk or lending experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
4+ years of management or leadership experience
Desired Qualifications:
Strategic thinker who aligns decisions with business goals.
Broad understanding of deposit fraud risks, both internal and external fraud types
Knowledge and experience with end-to-end consumer and small business deposit products throughout both the product management and customer life-cycle
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple initiatives simultaneously while applying critical thinking in describing multiple risks into a single risk landscape
Ability to develop and manage business relationships whilst interacting with all levels of an organization
Strong project management skills; organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
Strong business and risk acumen
Experience overseeing models through the model risk management lifecycle
Knowledge and understanding of ever-evolving regulatory environments and governance processes
Advanced Microsoft Office skills
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment while meeting stringent deadlines
