Sr. Engineering Manager - Java

As a senior engineering manager, you will be a key pillar of the leadership team. This role goes beyond managing tasks; you will be responsible for building a strong engineering culture and driving technical excellence. You will oversee multiple high-impact workstreams, mentor engineering managers and senior engineers, and work closely with leadership to define and execute the technical roadmap to scale the platform.
The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:
Organisational Leadership:
Lead and scale a multidisciplinary engineering organisation.
Drive hiring, retention, and growth of Engineering Managers and lead engineers.
Strategic Roadmapping:
Partner with product and clinical teams to translate business vision into a technical roadmap.
Balance rapid feature delivery with long-term platform stability.
Architectural Stewardship:
Provide architectural guidance for distributed systems.
Ensure systems are scalable, secure, and compliant (HIPAA / SOC2).
Operational Excellence:
Drive best practices in CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and incident management.
Ensure high availability (99.9%) of mission-critical systems.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Work closely with stakeholders across engineering, product, and business teams.
Simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements:
10+ years of full-time engineering experience.
4+ years in a people management role (managing 8-15+ engineers or managing managers).
Strong expertise in Java (Spring Boot) and microservices architecture.
Hands-on ability to lead code reviews and system design (HLD/LLD).
Proven experience in scaling products in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
Experience working on AI-driven products, FinTech, or HealthTech domains.
Strong ownership mindset with experience leading teams through ambiguity and rapid growth.
Bonus Points:
Experience with Agentic AI solutions or RAG pipelines.
Contributions to open-source projects or a strong engineering community presence.
Experience in high-growth startups (Series A/B or Y Combinator-backed).
