Project Manager

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and coordinate specialized data services projects for our frontier AI research teams. This is a full-time, on-site position that requires exceptional organizational skills, technical literacy, and the ability to manage diverse freelance teams with advanced coding and STEM PhD expertise.
The Specialized Data Services Project Manager will oversee the end-to-end execution of critical data projects that support frontier AI model development. These projects include training data creation, Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) tasks, and AI evaluation frameworks. You will coordinate between internal stakeholders and external freelance teams, ensuring quality, timeline adherence, and technical specifications are consistently met.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage multiple concurrent data projects from conception through delivery, maintaining detailed project documentation and timelines.
Recruit, onboard, and manage specialized freelance teams of software engineers and PhD-level STEM experts.
Define project specifications, deliverables, and quality standards in collaboration with internal technical teams.
Monitor project progress, identify risks and blockers, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
Manage budgets and resource allocation across projects, optimizing for cost-effectiveness and quality.
Facilitate communication between internal stakeholders (researchers, engineers, and leadership) and external freelance contributors.
Develop and maintain project templates, processes, and best practices for consistent execution.
Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure deliverables meet technical and scientific standards.
Track and report on project metrics, including timeline adherence, cost performance, and quality outcomes.

Requirements:
2+ years of project management experience, preferably in technical, research, or AI-related environments.
Demonstrated success managing remote or distributed teams, including freelancers and contractors.
Strong technical literacy with the ability to understand coding concepts, data pipelines, and ML/AI workflows.
Experience with data-related projects, quality assurance, or technical task specification.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proficiency in project management tools and systems (Jira, Asana, Monday.com, or similar platforms).
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
Bachelor's degree in a technical field, business, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in AI research, machine learning, or frontier AI model development.
Familiarity with training data annotation, data quality frameworks, or evaluation methodologies.
Experience managing teams with advanced technical degrees (Ph. D., M. S. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, etc. ).
Background in RLHF, prompt engineering, or human-in-the-loop AI systems; PMP, PRINCE2 or other formal project management certification.
Experience with GitHub, version control systems, or software development workflows.
