Senior Software Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Backend with experience building and operating high-stakes, transaction-heavy systems. You will work across payment infrastructure and platform services, where your engineering decisions will directly impact the reliability and correctness of merchant money flows
Responsibilities:
Design and build backend services for payment infrastructure, including idempotency, retry queues, reconciliation flows, and crash-safe state management.
Own systems in production, monitor services, respond to incidents, and continuously improve reliability.
Partner with product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into well-scoped engineering solutions and drive projects from design through production.
Contribute to shared platform services used across the organisation.
Drive system design reviews and help raise the overall engineering bar.
Proactively identify complex engineering challenges such as race conditions, ordering guarantees, and blast-radius risks before they reach production.
Instrument services for observability and own alerting for the systems you build.
Communicate technical risks, trade-offs, and timelines clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Use AI tools to accelerate development while critically validating and taking ownership of the output.
Mentor engineers and build reusable engineering patterns that improve the team's overall productivity.
Requirements:
4-6+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Strong proficiency in Java with Spring Boot or equivalent JVM-based backend frameworks.
Strong understanding of system design fundamentals, including: Distributed transactions, Idempotency, Event-driven architecture, Caching, Fault tolerance.
Hands-on experience working with relational databases and message queues in production.
Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
Experience with container-based deployments.
Ability to instrument services and own observability and alerting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical trade-offs and risks.

Experience in FinTech, payments, or transaction-heavy platforms, particularly where correctness is critical.
Experience designing idempotency, retry mechanisms, and reconciliation flows from scratch.
Evidence of proactive engineering thinking through: Design documents, RFCs, Post-mortems, Open-source contributions.
