Engineering Manager

We are seeking an accomplished Engineering Manager - DevOps and Cloud Engineering to lead the transformation, modernisation, and operational excellence of our cloud and platform engineering capabilities. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for building and scaling high-performing engineering teams, driving adoption of modern software engineering practices, and delivering secure, reliable, and scalable cloud platforms that support critical business applications and services. The successful candidate will combine strong people leadership with deep technical expertise across cloud infrastructure, DevOps, platform engineering, automation, and reliability engineering.
You will lead a team responsible for cloud infrastructure, CI/CD platforms, infrastructure automation, observability, platform reliability, and engineering enablement. The role requires close collaboration with Product, Engineering, Security, Architecture, and Operations teams to accelerate software delivery while ensuring operational resilience and regulatory compliance. This position is ideally suited for a leader who has evolved from a strong hands-on engineering background and is passionate about developing talent, improving engineering maturity, and driving large-scale technology transformation.
The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:
Engineering Leadership and Talent Development:
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing DevOps and Cloud Engineering organisation.
Recruit, mentor, coach, and retain top engineering talent while fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous learning.
Drive performance management, succession planning, and career development across the engineering team.
Establish engineering standards, best practices, and communities of practice that promote technical excellence.
Create an inclusive and collaborative environment focused on innovation, engagement, and professional growth.
Partner with senior leadership on workforce planning and capability development initiatives.
Cloud and Platform Strategy:
Define and execute the cloud engineering strategy aligned with organisational objectives.
Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-optimised cloud platforms.
Establish cloud governance, architecture standards, security controls, and operational frameworks.
Drive cloud modernisation and infrastructure transformation initiatives across the enterprise.
Ensure platforms are designed to meet reliability, performance, compliance, and business continuity requirements.
DevOps and Engineering Enablement:
Champion modern software engineering and DevOps practices across development teams.
Drive adoption of CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, trunk-based development, automated testing, and DevSecOps practices.
Establish engineering platforms and self-service capabilities that improve developer productivity and accelerate software delivery.
Continuously optimise software development lifecycle processes to improve deployment frequency, quality, and lead time for change.
Promote automation-first principles across infrastructure provisioning, deployment, testing, and operations.
Reliability, Observability and Operational Excellence:
Lead implementation of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and operational best practices.
Define and manage Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), and operational KPIs.
Establish enterprise observability capabilities encompassing monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting.
Drive continuous improvements in platform availability, scalability, performance, and resilience.
Lead incident management, problem management, root cause analysis, and post-incident review processes.
Establish and govern engineering support models, including on-call and escalation frameworks.
Architecture and Technical Leadership:
Provide architectural oversight and technical leadership for cloud, platform, and infrastructure initiatives.
Review solution designs to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and operational standards.
Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
Act as a trusted technical advisor to engineering leaders, architects, and senior stakeholders.
Balance short-term delivery priorities with long-term platform strategy and technical sustainability.
Delivery and Stakeholder Management:
Own delivery outcomes for cloud engineering, platform modernisation, and infrastructure programs.
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Security, Risk, and Operations teams to deliver business-critical initiatives.
Manage priorities, dependencies, risks, and resource allocation across multiple workstreams.
Ensure predictable delivery through effective planning, governance, and execution frameworks.
Communicate technical strategy, progress, and risks effectively to executive stakeholders.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
10+ years of overall experience in Software Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or DevOps.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience leading engineering teams in an Engineering Manager or equivalent leadership capacity.
Strong background as a senior individual contributor before moving into leadership roles.
Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams within complex enterprise environments.
Demonstrated success driving DevOps, cloud transformation, platform engineering, or infrastructure modernisation programs.
Experience delivering large-scale cloud-based solutions supporting business-critical applications.
Strong track record of managing technology delivery, operational excellence, and engineering performance.
