As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will work on distributed systems and build next-generation platforms and products. You will help the team to bring industry best practices in software development and operations while improving their engineering skills to build a pioneering e-commerce experience in new global markets. Working closely with a group of engineers in multiple geographic locations, you'll solve challenging problems at scale with high reliability. Your efforts will directly have an impact on tens of millions of users every single day!
Responsibilities:
Lead architecture design for scalable, extensible, and reliable systems.
Align technology roadmaps with leadership and stakeholders.
Build productivity tools using Claude and Windsurf.
Remove technical blockers and simplify complex problems into actionable solutions.
Write code when needed to guide teams and support high-priority initiatives.
Identify business and tech opportunities; evaluate and adopt new technologies.
Recruit, mentor, and grow top-tier engineering talent.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
8+ years building and operating backend services and web applications.
Deep expertise in distributed systems, storage, data processing, and server technologies.
Strong coding skills in Java and Spring Framework; object-oriented design.
Experience with AWS-based service development and operations.
Experience with NoSQL and relational/columnar databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
Git, CI/CD automation, and Agile methodologies.
Experience driving improvements in code quality.
Familiarity with observability tools (e. g., Grafana, Prometheus).
Passion and inclination towards reliability and observability.
