As a Backend Developer, you will own the development and scaling of our backend platforms and microservices. You will collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and architects to deliver robust, high-performing, and delightful experiences to our users. This role requires deep ownership, strong technical judgement, and a passion for building world-class consumer-facing server systems.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features and APIs.
Write clean, maintainable, and testable code adhering to best practices.
Optimise system performance, ensuring efficient queries and responsive APIs.
Build RESTful APIs, manage SQL databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), and leverage Redis for caching and performance.
Work with the frontend and mobile teams to shape contracts for APIs and data flow.
Debug, monitor, and troubleshoot backend performance issues.
Stay updated with backend, Java/Spring Boot, and cloud ecosystem trends.
Requirements:
3-6 years of experience in backend/system development. Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and Spring JPA.
Solid understanding of micro-service architecture and its design patterns Understanding of containerisation and orchestration tools like Docker, AWS ECS, etc.
Deep experience with relational database PostgreSQL/MySQL RDBMS design, performance tuning, and SQL.
Practical experience with Redis for caching and data structure handling.
Expertise in designing and integrating RESTful APIs in scalable systems.
Solid understanding of version control Git and code quality practices.
Familiarity with AWS EC2 S3 RDS, Lambda, ECS, etc.
Experience with asynchronous/event-driven architectures like Kafka/RabbitMQ/SQS.
Good debugging skills and a disciplined approach to testing and system monitoring.
Must have an AI-first approach. If you are not using Claude Code (or something similar) day-in and day-out, this is not the job for you.
Must understand the nuances of working in an early-stage startup.
Must be able to operate in a setting of chaos and ambiguity. Must be able to context switch often. 2 SDE-2/3 - Java, Spring Boot
Good to Have:
Experience in consumer-facing digital products, fintech, or insurance platforms.
Working knowledge of GCP.
Exposure to infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
Awareness of security, scalability, and system reliability best practices.
