Job Title: Design Engineer – Distribution Transformers & Electrical Panels
Location: Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir
Experience Required: 2+ years
Employment Type: Full-time
Preferred Candidates: Based in Jammu or willing to relocate to Jammu
About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Design Engineer with hands-on experience in the design of distribution transformers and electrical control/power panels. The candidate will be responsible for preparing technical designs, drawings, calculations, bill of materials, and documentation while coordinating with production, procurement, quality, and project teams.
This role is ideal for an electrical engineer who understands practical manufacturing requirements and can convert customer specifications into accurate, cost-effective, and production-ready designs.
Key Responsibilities
• Design distribution transformers as per customer specifications, applicable standards, and internal quality requirements.
• Prepare transformer design calculations including voltage ratio, current rating, losses, efficiency, impedance, core selection, winding details, conductor sizing, insulation, cooling, and tank requirements.
• Prepare technical drawings and manufacturing drawings for transformer assemblies, tanks, radiators, bushings, and related accessories.
• Design LT/HT electrical panels, including power control centres, motor control centres, APFC panels, feeder panels, distribution boards, control panels, and customized panels.
• Prepare single-line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, wiring diagrams, schematic diagrams, terminal plans, cable schedules, and panel layouts.
• Select suitable electrical components such as ACBs, MCCBs, MCBs, contactors, relays, meters, CTs, PTs, busbars, cables, VFDs, PLCs, and protection devices.
• Prepare Bills of Materials, cost estimates, technical submittals, datasheets, and compliance documents.
• Review client specifications, tender documents, and technical queries; provide appropriate technical solutions.
• Coordinate with production and quality teams to resolve design or manufacturing-related issues.
• Support procurement by providing technical specifications and approving equivalent components where required.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant IS/IEC standards, safety requirements, and customer specifications.
• Provide technical support during testing, inspection, commissioning, and customer discussions when needed.
• Maintain accurate design records, revisions, and project documentation.
Required Qualifications
• Diploma or B.Tech/B.E. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in designing distribution transformers and/or electrical panels.
• Good understanding of electrical engineering principles, transformer design, control circuits, and panel manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar electrical/mechanical drafting software.
• Familiarity with IS/IEC standards applicable to transformers and electrical panels.
• Ability to read and prepare electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Good communication, problem-solving, and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
Preferred Skills
• Experience in transformer manufacturing or electrical panel manufacturing.
• Knowledge of ERP systems, Excel-based design calculations, and BOM preparation.
• Familiarity with testing requirements for transformers and panels.
• Experience with tender documentation and customer technical approvals.
• Candidates from Jammu are preferred; candidates willing to relocate to Jammu may also apply.
