Lead / Principal Solar Electrical Design Engineer (Ground-Mount & MV/HV Systems)

About the Role
We are searching for a seasoned, hands-on Lead Solar Electrical Design Engineer to take complete ownership of electrical design execution for multi-MW utility-scale ground-mount solar PV projects.
This is not a high-level administrative or purely supervisory role. We need an engineer who built their foundation by physically designing plants—drafting Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), running PVsyst models, sizing cables, and calculating ground grids—and who now brings that deep technical expertise to lead end-to-end electrical design execution.
The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise across both AC and DC engineering, along with hands-on experience in 11kV, 33kV, and higher EHV power evacuation networks.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Design Execution: Own the complete electrical design lifecycle for utility-scale ground-mount solar projects—from preliminary engineering and DC/AC optimization to detailed design, vendor evaluation, and commissioning support.
Hands-On Engineering & Calculations: Personally perform and review critical design deliverables, including:
Short-circuit, load flow, and voltage drop calculations.
Cable sizing (DC, LT, MV, HV) and thermal rating analysis.
Earthing grid design, soil resistivity analysis, and lightning protection.
DC System Design: Optimize DC field layouts, inverter loading ratios (DC/AC), string sizing, combiner box configurations, DC cable routing, and surge protection.
AC & High-Voltage System Design:
Design robust AC collection systems, inverter duty transformers, 11kV / 33kV MV switchgears, and auxiliary power distribution.
Oversee grid interconnection engineering for 33kV, 66kV, 132kV, or 220kV+ substations/switchyards, including SLDs, protection & metering schemes, and relay coordination.
Vendor & Equipment Engineering: Draft General Technical Specifications (GTS), Bill of Materials (BOM/BOQ), and conduct detailed technical bid evaluations for major equipment (Central/String Inverters, Transformers, VCBs, RMUs, MV Cables).
Interdepartmental & Authority Coordination: Work closely with civil design teams, site execution crews, and state utility/grid authorities (DISCOMs/TRANSCOs) to ensure seamless grid synchronization.
Must-Have Qualifications & Skills
Education: B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in Electrical Engineering.
Experience: 8+ years of dedicated electrical design experience in ground-mount Solar PV projects (prior hands-on design experience is non-negotiable).
Power Sector Expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of 11kV and 33kV medium-voltage systems (experience with 66kV / 132kV / 220kV+ High Voltage / EHV substations is a strong advantage).
Software Proficiency:
-PVsyst (Advanced yield assessment, OND file tweaking, loss diagram evaluation).
-AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical (SLDs, plant layouts, trench details).
-ETAP / DigSILENT / CDEGS (Load flow, short circuit, and earthing design software is a major plus).
-Codes & Standards: Thorough understanding of local and international electrical codes (IS, IEC, IEEE, NEC, and local Grid Codes).
