About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Design Assistant (Shadow to the Principal Designer) at Mr. Light Illumination
Location: Delhi NCR — studio-based, with site visits
Type: Full-time
Reports to: Principal Designer / Founder
Experience: 1–4 years (freshers with a strong portfolio and software skills will be considered)
---
About the role
This is not a back-office drafting job. You will work as a shadow to the Principal Designer — in the room for client meetings, on site during walkthroughs, and at the desk when drawings and presentations are being built.
The purpose of the role is simple: the Principal should never lose time to coordination, file-hunting, follow-ups, or first drafts. You absorb that layer. In return you get an unusually close view of how design decisions actually get made, from first client brief to final installation.
The right person is organised by instinct, fast on software, and comfortable being the one who remembers what everyone else forgot.
---
What you'll do
Shadow support
- Accompany the Principal to client meetings, site visits, vendor discussions and coordination calls with architects and contractors.
- Take structured meeting notes and circulate minutes with clear action points, owners and deadlines — same day.
- Track every open point to closure and flag anything slipping before it becomes a problem.
- Prepare the Principal before each meeting: agenda, relevant drawings, previous minutes, pending items, client history.
Scheduling & coordination
- Own the Principal's calendar — schedule, reschedule, protect focus time, and avoid clashes.
- Send timely reminders for meetings, site visits, submission deadlines and follow-ups.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors and vendors to lock timings and confirm attendance.
- Maintain a live project tracker: what's due, what's pending, what's waiting on whom.
Drawing & documentation (AutoCAD)
- Prepare and update layouts, reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections and detail drawings.
- Mark up drawings during and after site visits and issue clean revisions.
- Maintain a disciplined file structure, revision log and drawing register — the right file must be findable in seconds.
- Build and update schedules and BOQs (fixtures, finishes, quantities) as designs evolve.
Visuals & presentation (Photoshop)
- Produce presentation-quality boards: concept boards, mood boards, material and finish boards.
- Render enhancement, image compositing, before/after visuals and site-photo clean-up.
- Build and format client presentation decks and project reports to a consistent studio standard.
- Photograph and document completed projects for the studio portfolio.
General studio support
- Vendor and sample coordination: requests, follow-ups, sample library upkeep.
- Maintain organised project folders, contact lists and documentation archives.
- Step in wherever the Principal's day needs a second pair of hands.
---
What we're looking for
Essential
- Degree or diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related design field.
- AutoCAD — confident and quick with 2D drafting, layouts and detailing.
- Adobe Photoshop — strong command; able to produce polished boards and presentation visuals independently.
- Genuinely strong organisational skills: you keep lists, you follow up without being asked, and nothing quietly disappears.
- Clear written and spoken English and Hindi — you will be drafting emails and minutes that go to clients.
- Willing to travel locally for site visits, and to be flexible when a project demands it.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of SketchUp, Enscape / V-Ray, Revit, InDesign or Illustrator.
- Comfortable with Excel or Google Sheets for trackers, schedules and BOQs.
- Exposure to lighting design, MEP coordination, or FF&E specification.
- Prior experience assisting a senior designer, architect or founder.
The kind of person who does well here
- Anticipates rather than waits to be told.
- Takes feedback quickly and doesn't repeat the same mistake.
- Discreet with client and commercial information.
- Comfortable in the room when a difficult client conversation is happening — and useful in it.
