Role Description This full-time, on-site Zookeeper role at DNPJ - Direction nationale de la police judiciaire is based in Chennai. The Zookeeper is responsible for the daily care and supervision of animals, including feeding, cleaning enclosures, monitoring health, and maintaining safe, hygienic habitats. The role involves observing animal behavior, reporting concerns to supervisors or veterinary staff, and assisting with basic medical care under guidance. The Zookeeper supports enrichment activities to promote natural behaviors, assists with safe animal handling and transfers, and follows all safety, security, and welfare protocols. The position may also include keeping accurate records, supporting educational or outreach activities, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure high standards of animal care.
Qualifications
Strong Animal Care and Animal Handling skills, with experience in daily husbandry and safe interaction with a range of species.
Knowledge of Zoology and Wildlife, including basic understanding of species-specific needs and conservation principles.
Ability to observe and interpret Animal Behavior to identify stress, illness, or changes in routine and respond appropriately.
Relevant education in zoology, animal science, veterinary technology, or a related field; equivalent practical experience is also valued.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, work outdoors in varying conditions, and follow strict safety and hygiene protocols.
Strong attention to detail, record-keeping skills, and the ability to follow established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to ethical animal treatment and continuous learning.
