About the Role
SMS Associates is looking for a motivated and technically inclined Cybersecurity Intern to join our team. The role is primarily focused on the investigations and technical aspects of cybersecurity, with an opportunity to work at the intersection of cybersecurity, digital investigations, and legal matters.
The intern will gain practical exposure to cybersecurity assessments, digital evidence, incident analysis, cyber investigations, and technical documentation while working under the guidance of experienced professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with cybersecurity assessments and technical security reviews.
Support digital forensic and cyber investigation activities.
Assist in the identification, preservation, collection, and analysis of digital evidence.
Perform basic log analysis, network analysis, endpoint analysis, and system investigations.
Assist with OSINT and threat intelligence research.
Conduct vulnerability identification and basic security testing under supervision.
Analyze suspicious activities, incidents, emails, files, systems, and other digital artefacts.
Assist in preparing technical investigation reports, findings, and documentation.
Maintain proper documentation and evidence-handling records to support the integrity and potential legal admissibility of digital evidence.
Research emerging cyber threats, attack techniques, vulnerabilities, and security controls.
Support the cybersecurity team in developing technical findings and recommendations.
Requirements
Pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Good understanding of networking, operating systems, cybersecurity fundamentals, and information security concepts.
Basic knowledge of Windows/Linux environments, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and system logs.
Familiarity with cybersecurity or forensic tools is an advantage.
Basic scripting knowledge in Python, PowerShell is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good technical documentation and report-writing skills.
Willingness to learn and work on real-world cybersecurity and investigation-related matters.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong attention to detail and professional handling of confidential information.
