Your role and responsibilities
We are now looking for a Trade Compliance Officer to join our team at ABB Oy, Smart Power in Vaasa. In this role, you will lead trade compliance activities at the manufacturing unit, helping ensure compliance with export control, customs, sanctions, and other international trade requirements. You will work closely with business teams by providing guidance on compliance matters, supporting product classification activities, identifying potential risks, and monitoring regulatory changes. You will also serve as a key link between the business, the trade compliance organization, and external authorities.
Trade compliance responsibilities will account for approximately 80% of the role. The remaining 20% will consist of additional responsibilities supporting business operations, process improvement, and other local activities based on business needs.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Ensuring local business processes comply with ABB Trade policies and applicable trade regulations
Providing practical guidance, training, and support on trade compliance matters to local teams and maintaining trade compliance policies, procedures and instructions at manufacturing unit level
Acting as the main contact for trade compliance topics and collaborating with internal stakeholders and external authorities
Identifying and communicating potential trade compliance risks to local management and Country Trade Compliance Officers
Monitoring and communicating changes in customs and export control regulations
Supporting product classification activities, including export control, tariff classification, and origin determination
Conducting sanctions and restricted party screenings
Maintaining preferential origin processes and providing Long-Term Supplier Declarations (LTSDs) to customers
Qualifications for the role
Strong knowledge of international trade compliance, export control, customs regulations, and sanctions requirements
Good understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes, risk management and logistics in a global business environment
BSc. or MSc. level degree from a relevant field, such as Business or Engineering
Fluent written and spoken English and Finnish are necessary in this role
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions and levels of the organization
Business mind-set, responsiveness, strong sense of ownership, self-driven; strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks and provide practical compliance solutions
Experience with SAP and SAP GTS is considered an advantage
