This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Partner Leader based in India.
This is a strategic business development role focused on building partnerships with Point-of-Sale (POS) software companies, data aggregators, data extractors, and other digital data providers.
You will identify and engage potential partners across countries and retail channels to expand access to high-quality POS transaction data from independent trade stores.
The role combines market research, commercial sourcing, relationship building, negotiation, and contract management.
You will work closely with Data Strategy, Product, and Global Data Partnership teams to align vendor acquisition plans with product roadmaps and market expansion priorities.
You will take partnerships from initial prospecting and engagement through data testing, commercial negotiations, contracting, and successful internal handover.
The position also offers opportunities to expand existing vendor relationships across markets and represent the data vision at retail and technology industry events.
This role is well suited to a resourceful, commercially minded professional who understands SMB retail technology and enjoys creating new partnerships in a dynamic, international environment.
Accountabilities
Work closely with Data Strategy teams and regional Product Leads to understand product roadmaps and ensure vendor sourcing strategies are aligned with business priorities.
Develop country- and channel-level sourcing plans based on targeted store counts, channel types, digitization strategies, and data requirements.
Generate and qualify leads among POS software providers, data aggregators, promotional technology companies, and other electronic data providers through desk research, referrals, networking, and industry research.
Identify and establish relationships with appropriate decision-makers who have authority over data partnerships and commercial agreements.
Present the organization’s data partnership vision, initiate commercial discussions, and develop opportunities with potential vendors.
Ensure appropriate legal documentation, including Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), is established to enable partnership discussions.
Guide prospective vendors through the evaluation process, including estimating store coverage, obtaining test data in the required format, reviewing results, providing structured feedback, and validating final usable store counts.
Develop compelling commercial proposals and negotiate partnership terms, business cases, investments, and contracts that create value for both parties.
Coordinate the transition of contracted vendors to data and internal teams, ensuring a smooth handover of technical and operational aspects of the partnership.
Identify opportunities to expand successful vendor relationships within existing markets and across additional countries.
Partner with Global Data Partnership teams to develop expansion plans, commercial offerings, and investment requirements.
Lead negotiations for partnership expansions and ensure agreed plans are executed successfully.
Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, identifying opportunities to increase business value and expand collaboration over time.
Participate in retailer and retail technology events to present the data partnership vision and develop new industry relationships.
Support social media initiatives designed to increase awareness of the data partnership strategy and opportunities.
Requirements
Bring 3–5 years of experience in commercial roles such as sales, business development, customer service, account management, or a closely related discipline.
Ideally have experience in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) or retail, with Retail Technology as a strong alternative.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of business development and the ability to identify creative ways to connect with POS software companies, data aggregators, and other technology providers.
Possess a solid understanding of POS software and hardware capabilities and an interest in emerging technologies supporting independent retail businesses.
Demonstrate excellent communication, presentation, and sales pitching skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at different levels of seniority.
Bring strong negotiation skills and a practical understanding of contract discussions, commercial terms, and financial considerations.
Demonstrate strong account management capabilities, including the ability to identify opportunities to expand existing vendor relationships and grow business value.
Be confident engaging with senior leadership and influencing stakeholders throughout complex commercial discussions.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently, take ownership of initiatives, and recognize when escalation or additional support is required.
Work effectively with stakeholders across multiple functions and demonstrate a strong team-oriented approach.
Be comfortable operating in a dynamic environment that combines individual ownership with collaborative, cross-functional work.
Demonstrate resourcefulness, creativity, and a results-driven mindset when developing new commercial opportunities and partnerships.
Bring strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple partnership discussions, negotiations, and initiatives simultaneously.
