Senior Software Engineer — AI Training Project
Role Type: Contractor
Workload: ~15 hours/week
Location: Remote
Compensation: $50–$100/hour
Engagement: Flexible, project-based
About the Role
We are looking for Senior Software Engineers to contribute to an innovative project focused on training next-generation AI systems.
In this role, you will use your real-world software engineering expertise to create challenging environments that evaluate an AI model’s ability to solve complex engineering problems—including debugging, feature development, code refactoring, and performance optimization.
You will create reproducible coding environments and golden reference solutions that can be used to evaluate and improve AI model performance.
No prior AI experience is required. Your software engineering expertise and ability to reason through complex technical problems are what matter most.
Key Responsibilities
Create expert-level coding tasks and environments that test AI models against realistic software engineering challenges.
Develop high-quality code in Python 3, Java, Rust, Go, C++, or TypeScript.
Analyze and resolve complex bugs, defects, and performance bottlenecks across diverse codebases.
Implement robust features while maintaining scalability, reliability, readability, and maintainability.
Refactor legacy code and optimize existing implementations for improved performance and quality.
Develop golden/reference solutions that demonstrate the expected solution and outcome for each task.
Ensure coding environments are reproducible, well-documented, and suitable for evaluation.
Document technical reasoning, debugging approaches, implementation decisions, and expected outcomes.
Review and validate other engineers’ submissions for technical accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
Preferred Qualifications
Significant hands-on experience with at least one of:
Python 3
Java
Rust
Go
C++
TypeScript
Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, system design, and software engineering principles.
Proven experience debugging and resolving complex software issues.
Experience working with large or complex codebases.
Strong background in refactoring, optimization, and legacy system modernization.
Ability to take a technical problem from understanding through implementation and validation.
Strong written communication and technical documentation skills.
Curiosity about AI, machine learning, or AI coding systems is a plus, but prior AI experience is not required.
What You'll Work On
🐛 Bug Fixing: Diagnose and resolve difficult software defects.
🚀 Feature Development: Implement new functionality in existing codebases.
🔧 Refactoring: Improve architecture, readability, and maintainability.
⚡ Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks and improve system efficiency.
🧪 Testing & Validation: Create tests and verify expected behavior.
🤖 AI Evaluation: Design engineering challenges that measure an AI model’s ability to solve real-world coding problems.
Compensation
$50–$100/hour
This is a flexible contractor engagement of approximately 15 hours per week.
Compensation is based on the quality and successful completion of assigned project work. Task complexity and completion time may vary based on the expert’s experience and workflow.
Minimum weekly submission requirements apply.
Ideal Candidate
You are a senior-level software engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, working independently, and thinking deeply about how software should be designed, debugged, optimized, and validated.
You don't need to be an AI specialist—you need to be an excellent software engineer with strong technical reasoning and hands-on coding expertise.
