Role Description
The Industry Mentor – AI for Architecture & Design is a part-time / contractual remote role focused on helping learners understand how Generative AI can be applied responsibly within real architectural and design workflows.
The mentor will guide participants across areas such as concept development, site analysis, spatial planning, massing, architectural visualization, 3D workflows, documentation support, and responsible use of AI in design practice.
The role is intended for someone who understands architecture first and AI second. The objective is not simply to demonstrate AI tools, but to help participants understand where AI can improve speed, exploration, and productivity while ensuring that architectural judgment, technical verification, authorship, and professional responsibility remain with the designer.
Responsibilities may include conducting live online sessions and demonstrations, reviewing learner projects, preparing practical examples and case studies, contributing to curriculum development, providing feedback on assignments and capstone work, and collaborating with the internal curriculum and technology teams.
The mentor may also help demonstrate how AI can be incorporated across stages such as:
Project brief interpretation and requirement organization
Concept development and visual exploration
Site analysis and early feasibility studies
Spatial zoning and circulation exploration
Massing and form development
AI-assisted architectural visualization
Working with existing 3D/BIM models
Documentation and specification support
Design workflow integration
Responsible AI, authorship, copyright, confidentiality, and academic integrity
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Urban Design, Computational Design, or a closely related discipline.
Strong understanding of architectural design workflows, including site analysis, concept development, spatial planning, schematic design, massing, 3D development, visualization, and documentation.
Practical professional, academic, studio, or project experience in architecture or design.
Hands-on exposure to Generative AI or AI-assisted design workflows, including areas such as concept generation, image generation, rendering, visualization, research, or documentation.
Working knowledge of relevant architecture and design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, ArchiCAD, BIM platforms, rendering tools, or equivalent applications.
Ability to demonstrate how AI can complement existing architectural workflows rather than replace professional design judgment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical and design concepts clearly during live online sessions.
Experience in teaching, mentoring, workshops, studio reviews, professional training, or learner guidance is preferred.
Ability to review architectural/design work and provide constructive, practical feedback.
Interest in developing exercises, demonstrations, case studies, and applied learning material.
Understanding of responsible AI use, including authorship, copyright, confidentiality, academic integrity, bias, limitations, and verification of AI-generated outputs.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate with curriculum, technology, and programme teams.
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be an advantage:
AI-assisted architectural visualization
Generative design
Computational or parametric design
BIM automation
AI-assisted rendering
Architecture technology / DesignTech
Generative AI tools used within architecture or interior design
Architecture education or studio mentoring
Engagement
Part-time / Contractual / Visiting Faculty
