Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Optometrist role based in Mau. The Optometrist will perform comprehensive eye examinations, including refraction and binocular vision assessments, to diagnose vision problems and prescribe appropriate corrective lenses. Daily responsibilities include interpreting diagnostic test results, managing common refractive and binocular vision issues, and providing pre- and post-operative optometric support in collaboration with ophthalmologists. The role involves educating patients on eye health, contact lens care, and preventive measures, maintaining accurate clinical records, and adhering to hospital protocols and safety standards. The Optometrist will also participate in clinical discussions, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and support community outreach or screening programs as needed.
Qualifications
Professional optometry qualifications such as a Bachelor’s or Diploma in Optometry from a recognized institution.
Strong clinical skills in refraction, contact lens fitting, basic binocular vision assessment, and use of diagnostic instruments (e.g., slit lamp, autorefractor, tonometer).
Ability to interpret clinical findings, provide appropriate prescriptions, and collaborate closely with ophthalmologists and other clinical staff.
Clear, empathetic communication skills for counseling patients and explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive eye care.
Commitment to ethical practice, attention to detail in documentation, and adherence to hospital policies and infection control protocols.
Comfort working in a fast-paced clinical environment, with strong organizational skills and reliability in a full-time on-site setting.
Prior experience in a hospital or clinical eye care setting is preferred; familiarity with local languages in Mau and Azamgarh region is an advantage.
