HR & Recruitment Manager — UK Retail
Henley Retail Group | On-site, Vadodara | ₹7–10 LPA | 5–8 years
Please read the working hours before applying — they are unusual and they are not negotiable.
Working hours: 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm IST, moving to 2:00 pm – 11:00 pm during the UK winter. Monday to Friday, on-site in Vadodara.
About us
Henley Retail Group is a UK convenience retail specialist, backed by over 40 years of combined experience owning, acquiring, developing and operating convenience stores. We are building our first India head office in Vadodara, and this is one of the founding roles — you would be joining at the start, with direct day-to-day access to our UK Directors, and the position is set up to grow into leading the HR and recruitment function as the office scales.
The role
You will run recruitment, onboarding, employee records and day-to-day HR for our UK stores and this India head office, working directly with our Directors, Store Managers, payroll provider and UK HR advisers. You will keep our people processes professional and properly documented, and follow approved HR advice rather than give independent legal advice.
We need someone confident enough to give an honest, evidence-based view — and to challenge a proposed decision when the facts do not support it.
What you will be doing
• Running recruitment end to end — writing and advertising roles, sourcing, screening, interviewing, references, offers and onboarding
• Preparing and maintaining contracts, offer letters, induction records, right-to-work evidence and employee files
• Handling disciplinary, grievance, capability and employee-relations matters under approved procedures and adviser guidance
• Writing professional HR letters, meeting notes and investigation records, with a complete and confidential audit trail
• Supporting our UK Skilled Worker Sponsor Licence — sponsored-worker records, compliance, reporting and audit readiness
• Keeping policies, handbooks, templates and HR SOPs current and properly version-controlled
• Producing workforce reporting — vacancies, time to hire, turnover, absence, retention and people risks
• Coaching managers on fair, consistent people management
What we are looking for
• 5–8 years of progressive HR and recruitment experience, including employee relations and professional HR documentation
• CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management (or Level 7) preferred. Candidates without it will be expected to begin and complete CIPD Level 5 within 24 months of joining, with the cost supported by the company
• Confident spoken and written English — you will be working with UK Directors and store managers every day, and much of this role is writing documents that have to stand up to scrutiny
• Strong discretion, accurate record-keeping, and the confidence to have difficult conversations rather than avoid them
• Graduate in any discipline
• Knowledge of UK employment processes and right-to-work requirements is an advantage but not required. We will train you, and you will work under the guidance of our UK HR advisers
Terms
Full time and permanent, on-site in Vadodara. Six-month probation, two-month notice period. You would work for Henley Retail Group and be on the payroll of OBOX HR, our HR partner in India.
Selection process
Three stages: an interview with our Head of India Operations, an interview with our UK Directors, and a final practical assessment before any offer is made.
