About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Roles & Responsibilities:
We are hiring plumbing and fire protection engineers to own the wet-side scope of US building projects — domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, natural gas, and fire suppression systems — from sizing calculations through coordinated construction documents and construction administration. Plumbing design is executed in full; fire protection work centres on system design criteria, sprinkler layouts, and performance specifications, coordinated with the fire protection contractor’s detailed shop drawings and hydraulic calculations.
We are hiring at two levels within this discipline:
Mid-Level Engineer (typically 4–7 years of experience)
Senior Engineer (typically 8+ years).
Key Responsibilities:
3. Plumbing Design & Engineering •
Design domestic cold and hot water systems using fixture-unit methodology — pipe sizing, booster pumps, water heater selection, mixing and recirculation provisions.
Job Description — Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer
• Design sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage (including overflow provisions), and natural gas piping systems per the applicable plumbing and fuel gas codes.
• Size and specify interceptors, backflow prevention, and water treatment provisions as required by the project and jurisdiction.
• Select and schedule plumbing fixtures and equipment; verify water-efficiency requirements (EPAct, state codes, CALGreen / LEED where applicable).
4. Fire Protection Design
• Develop fire suppression design criteria — hazard classification, density / area requirements, and water supply analysis
• Prepare sprinkler system layouts, standpipe designs. and fire pump arrangements.
• Understand hydraulic calculation principles and review the fire protection contractor’s shop drawings and calculations against the design intent. • Coordinate fire protection systems with architecture, structure, and the other MEP disciplines — ceiling coordination, pipe routing, and equipment access.
5. Construction Documents & BIM
• Produce complete, code-compliant construction document sets in Revit to office standards across SD, DD, CD, and CA phases.
• Coordinate with mechanical and electrical disciplines; resolve clashes and integration issues before drawings are issued, using Navisworks and BIM coordination sessions.
• Draft project-specific specification sections for plumbing and fire suppression systems.
6. Construction Administration
• Own the RFI workflow on your projects — receive, interpret, respond, log, and track to closure, with responses that need minimal revision from the US team.
• Prepare plan check / AHJ comment responses and resolution drawings for US jurisdiction submissions.
• Review vendor submittals and fire protection shop drawings, evaluate substitution requests, and coordinate with vendors and manufacturers’ representatives.
• Assist with change order documentation, participate in punch list development, and review designs for constructability before issue.
Required Qualifications:
Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (mandatory).
ASPE affiliation, NICET awareness, or fire protection coursework is a plus.
• Experience: Mid-Level — 4–7 years in plumbing design (with fire protection exposure) at an MEP consulting or design firm;
Senior — 8+ years including 2+ years leading a discipline team or acting as senior reviewer. US or international project experience strongly preferred at both levels.
• Revit (MEP) is mandatory — you must be able to model your discipline’s systems from scratch and deliver coordinated, issue-ready sheets. Senior candidates should be able to set model standards and review others’ Revit work.
• US code literacy — working knowledge of the applicable US model.Direct experience on US projects is strongly preferred. Our work is concentrated in California, Florida, Georgia, and New York — prior experience with any of these state code regimes is an added advantage, not a prerequisite.
• Strong written English — RFI responses, plan check replies, and specifications are written deliverables that go directly to US clients and code authorities.
