You are responsible for the entire engineering operations of all the hotel’s systems, plant, and equipment. You ensure the POMEC budget is utilised as efficiently and effectively as possible to satisfy guest needs, the property, and its assets. As a Chief Engineer, you’re not just overseeing the safety and functionality of the property – you’re spreading the light and warmth of hospitality by delivering memorable experiences that make the stay for every guest.

In addition, this role requires the following minimum qualifications:
Engineering degree or relevant certification
10+ years in hotel/building services or related field, 5+ years as Chief/Assistant Chief Engineer in a 5-star hotel. Experience in resort properties would be an advantage.
Strong engineering background with trade expertise, trade-qualified in Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing/Gas Fitting
Adapt to a flexible schedule; available 24/7 for emergencies
Specialized knowledge in HVAC, water treatment, hydraulics, chillers, electronics, lighting, elevators, fire safety, and related systems
Skilled in maintaining all hotel building services (e.g., security, A/C, plumbing, electrical, kitchen, laundry, lifts, TV/sound systems)
Familiar with government regulations and technical standards
Here’s what you’ll do during a typical day:
Lead facility operations: Direct the functionality, safety, and compliance of buildings, mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC, life safety systems, and grounds in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
Oversee facility maintenance: Perform facility inspections and supervise construction, installation, maintenance, and repairs of electrical, mechanical, and architectural systems
Support property improvement projects: Direct capital projects and property rehabilitations – including scheduling, budgeting, contractor bidding, and licensing/permitting – while ensuring regulatory compliance
Oversee work order fulfillment: Ensure routine maintenance and repairs are assigned, verified, and documented in the property maintenance management system
Ensure regulatory compliance: Communicate with government officials to maintain permits, coordinate inspections, and uphold safety and code standards
Cultivate a high-performing team: Drive engagement and retention through performance management, professional development, and recognition programs
Communication & Collaboration: Ensure professional, efficient, and thorough communication between Engineering and all other hotel areas, fostering positive interactions at both individual and department levels.
Customer Service Focus: Maintain a high customer service focus, respecting guest privacy and ensuring their comfort and confidentiality.
Sustainability & Efficiency: Manage the Lightstay Corporate Responsibility platform, drive sustainability projects, and monitor asset efficiencies on the building automation system.
