Your Role and Responsibilities
In this role, you'll deliver world-class power systems support and expertise that keeps mission-critical infrastructure running reliably. Every day, you'll combine technical excellence with customer focus—solving complex problems, driving continuous improvement, and helping customers achieve their operational goals.
Work model: On-site in Napier, New Zealand with travel to customer sites as needed
Key responsibilities:
Provide expert technical support and troubleshoot complex power systems problems across various service categories (commissioning, maintenance, fault-finding, retrofits), both remotely and on-site
Lead specialist service projects independently—managing timelines, budgets, technical delivery, documentation, and HSE compliance while coordinating internal and external teams
Act as a technical consultant to management and customers, recommending cost-effective service solutions and identifying new service opportunities by collaborating with ABB sales teams
Drive continuous improvement by sharing best practices, developing comprehensive technical documentation, and proactively suggesting product and quality enhancements

Qualifications for the Role
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional electrical registration
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in technical support, field service, or similar roles within the power industry
Deep expertise in power systems, power electronics, power quality, energy management, and grid stability concepts
Excellent communication skills—able to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking under pressure, and proven ability to manage complex projects independently
Willingness to travel nationally and internationally to customer sites for commissioning, support, and training activities
Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) standards, operational integrity, and continuous learning
