At Wattr.ai, we are building technology for one of India’s most important challenges — water.
We are building the digital intelligence layer for real-world water infrastructure, bringing together IoT, sensors, cloud, data and AI to help monitor and manage water infrastructure at scale.
We are looking for a hands-on Technical Lead who will take ownership of the technology from business requirement to production.
Business Requirement → Product Requirement → Architecture → Engineering Plan → Sprints → Development → Deployment → Production → Scale

🎯 What you will own
You will be the technical bridge between Product and Engineering.
You will:
→ Understand business and product requirements and translate them into technical solutions and system architecture
→ Design the architecture across application, APIs, databases, data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, integrations and real-time systems
→ Break product requirements and architecture into engineering modules, technical tasks and sprint deliverables
→ Plan sprints, sequence dependencies and assign work across engineers
→ Track engineering execution, resolve technical blockers and ensure delivery against product milestones and business KPIs
→ Remain hands-on with development, particularly on complex or critical components
→ Review code and technical implementation and maintain engineering quality
→ Identify scalability, reliability, security and performance issues and drive them to resolution
→ Take products from 0→1 through production and scale
💻 Technology ownership
You should be comfortable working across the complete technology stack:
Frontend → Backend → APIs → Data → Real-time → IoT → Cloud → Infrastructure → AI
Full-stack Engineering
Strong hands-on experience with:
• Node.js and backend development
• React and modern frontend development
• REST APIs and service integrations
• Databases and data modelling
• Authentication, authorization and application security
• Performance optimisation and production debugging
☁️ AWS, Cloud & Infrastructure
Strong production experience with AWS and cloud-native systems.
Relevant experience includes:
• EC2, S3, RDS / time-series databases and other AWS services
• AWS IoT Core or equivalent IoT platforms
• Docker and containerised applications
• Kubernetes / EKS
• Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform
• CI/CD and automated deployments
• Cloud networking and security
• Monitoring, logging and observability
We are looking for someone who can build and evolve infrastructure, not simply consume infrastructure created by others.
📡 IoT, Real-time & Data
Wattr operates at the intersection of software and physical infrastructure.
Experience with:
• IoT / connected devices
• MQTT / pub-sub architectures
• Sensor telemetry and real-time data ingestion
• Event-driven systems
• Kafka or similar streaming technologies
• ETL / data ingestion pipelines
• Time-series data
• High-volume event processing
• Real-time alerts, reporting and monitoring
• Edge-to-cloud architectures
Experience handling thousands of events per minute or comparable production scale is highly valuable.
🤖 AI & AI-assisted Engineering
Experience with:
• LLMs / GenAI
• RAG or agentic systems
• AI/ML APIs and integrations
• AI/ML pipelines
• AI-assisted development using tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or equivalent
We value engineers who use AI practically to improve engineering velocity, quality and problem-solving.
🧠 Architecture & System Design
Architecture ownership is mandatory.
You should have at least 2–3 years of hands-on experience owning production architecture and system-design decisions, including:
• Translating business requirements into technical architecture
• Defining service, API, data and integration boundaries
• Making technology and architecture decisions
• Designing for scalability, reliability and performance
• Cloud and infrastructure architecture
• Security and observability
• Evolving architecture as products grow
We are looking for someone who has built what they architected — not a pure enterprise architect or documentation/consulting profile.
👥 Technical Leadership
You will lead the engineering team from a technical execution perspective.
This means:
→ Converting product requirements into clear engineering plans
→ Breaking large requirements into executable tasks
→ Planning and driving sprints
→ Assigning work based on priorities, complexity and engineer strengths
→ Tracking delivery and resolving dependencies/blockers
→ Reviewing code and architecture
→ Mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards
You should be comfortable leading a small engineering team while remaining a strong hands-on developer.

You should have taken at least one product, platform or major system through:
Idea → Architecture → First Build → MVP → Production → Scale
Startup experience and experience working in high-ownership environments are strong advantages.

Within your first 6–12 months, you should be able to:
→ Own the technical architecture of key Wattr products
→ Establish a strong product-to-engineering execution process
→ Ship a field-tested MVP rapidly
→ Build reliable systems around live sensor/device data
→ Establish scalable backend, frontend and data systems
→ Build robust alerts, reporting and intelligence capabilities
→ Strengthen automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring and observability

✅ What we're looking for
• 7–10 years of software engineering experience
• 2–3+ years of hands-on architecture / system-design ownership
• Strong hands-on full-stack development
• Strong Node.js + React experience
• Strong AWS/cloud and infrastructure experience
• Experience building infrastructure and deployment systems from scratch
• Strong understanding of APIs, databases and distributed systems
• Experience with data pipelines, streaming or high-volume real-time systems
• Experience taking products/systems from 0→1
• Experience leading engineering execution and mentoring developers
• Strong sprint planning, task breakdown and delivery ownership
• IoT / MQTT / telemetry / real-time systems experience is a strong advantage
• AI / GenAI and AI-assisted development experience is a strong advantage
• Strong ownership, problem-solving and communication skills
