Purpose: The Tax Head will lead the end-to-end tax function, ensuring full compliance with direct and indirect tax laws, managing tax risks, supporting business initiatives, and driving tax-efficient structures and processes. The role requires strong knowledge of Indian tax regulations, banking industry requirements, and regulatory coordination.
Responsibilities -
• Oversee all direct tax and indirect tax compliance, including timely filing, payments, assessments, notices, and litigation management.
• Ensure compliance with withholding tax, GST, TDS/TCS, and other applicable statutory obligations.
• Monitor changes in tax laws, circulars, judicial pronouncements, and regulatory developments affecting the bank.
• Provide advisory support to business, finance, treasury, operations, and product teams on tax implications of new products, partnerships, vendor arrangements, and strategic initiatives.
• Manage tax audits, assessments, appeals, and interactions with tax authorities.
• Coordinate with external advisors, consultants, and auditors on complex tax matters.
• Review contracts, procurement arrangements, and intercompany transactions from a tax perspective.
• Support transfer pricing, tax provisioning, deferred tax computation, and annual financial statement disclosures.
• Establish strong internal controls, documentation standards, and tax governance processes.
• Drive tax optimization while ensuring a conservative risk management approach aligned to banking standards.
• Support board, audit committee, and management reporting on key tax exposures, disputes, and compliance status.
• Work closely with legal, compliance, risk, and finance teams to ensure integrated governance.
• Lead and develop the tax team, defining roles, review mechanisms, and capability building.
Qualifications
• Chartered Accountant preferred; additional qualification in law, finance, or taxation is an advantage.
• 15+years of relevant experience, preferably in banking, financial services, fintech, or large corporates.
• Strong experience in Indian direct tax, GST, TDS, litigation, and tax advisory.
• Experience in handling regulatory interactions and tax assessments.
• Deep understanding of banking operations, treasury, vendor contracts, and product structures.
Preferred Experience
• Banking or payments industry experience.
• Exposure to digital payments, partnerships, merchant acquiring, lending, or embedded finance.
• Experience in tax structuring for regulated financial institutions.
• Familiarity with automation, ERP systems, and tax reporting tools.
