We are looking for a talented Product Engineer to join our team specializing in Engineering in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Drive product quality and reliability by investigating technical issues, identifying root causes, recommending corrective actions, and owning problem resolution through completion.
Support successful product development and support programs by executing key business processes within Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI), and Current Product Support (CPS).
Apply structured engineering methodologies such as ESW, iDFMEA, FIRG, design reviews, and 7-step problem solving to improve decision-making and reduce product risk.
Influence quality product decisions by collaborating with technical managers, project leaders, manufacturing engineers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to provide data-driven recommendations.
Advance projects effectively by using engineering knowledge and sound judgment to make decisions related to testing, analysis, project execution, and cross-functional coordination.
Take ownership of increasingly complex components, systems, and products, resolving technical challenges while balancing performance, quality, cost, and schedule considerations.
Improve engineering processes and operational effectiveness by independently executing established work systems and contributing ideas that enhance efficiency, consistency, and product outcomes.
Strengthen team performance and technical capability by coordinating technicians and student employees, contributing to team goals, influencing within work groups, and continuously expanding your technical expertise.
Additional Information:
The Columbus Midrange Engine Plant (CMEP) primarily manufactures the Cummins 6.7L diesel engine for Ram Truck. The CMEP Product Engineering team is responsible for the design, support, and technical ownership of the product currently being manufactured. The core work of the team is to evaluate, validate, and implement changes for this product as well as identify and mitigate warranty issues. This is a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you get to see the impact of your work daily.
A successful candidate will work cross-functionally with customers, plant quality, product quality, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, materials, operations, and other functions. Provide information on the status of improvement projects to customer. Working as a team, candidate will deliver superior results by finding the optimal solution and bringing it to fruition.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Apply strong engineering and systems thinking skills to understand complex product interactions, define requirements, evaluate risks, and make design decisions that optimize overall system performance and reliability.
Use data-driven decision making by applying statistical methods, design of experiments, regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and other analytical tools to solve problems and guide product development decisions.
Translate customer and stakeholder requirements into effective designs by leading cross-functional design integration efforts and ensuring solutions meet technical, manufacturing, quality, and business objectives.
Develop expertise in mechanical systems and controls engineering by understanding the interaction between mechanical, hydraulic, electronic, chemical, and software-controlled systems to deliver robust product performance.
Execute product development activities effectively by planning, coordinating, monitoring, and delivering projects while balancing quality, schedule, resource, and risk considerations throughout the product lifecycle.
Proactively identify and mitigate product risks through failure mode avoidance, interface management, modeling, simulation, verification, validation, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
Manage product configurations and engineering changes by maintaining accurate specifications, drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation while ensuring product integrity throughout its lifecycle.
Collaborate across functions and build strong partnerships with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, project teams, and other stakeholders to achieve shared objectives and drive successful outcomes.
Communicate complex technical information clearly through design reviews, technical reports, requirements documentation, and stakeholder presentations that support informed decision-making.
Deliver results in challenging situations by making timely, high-quality decisions, prioritizing effectively, and maintaining focus on customer, product, and business needs.
Continuously develop your technical expertise by seeking feedback, expanding your knowledge of products and technologies, and pursuing both formal and informal learning opportunities.
Leverage diverse perspectives and experiences to enhance innovation, strengthen problem-solving, and improve team and business performance.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
Entry level/Early career professional.
Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area.
Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred
