We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Lead / Software Architect to provide strong technical ownership and lead our engineering team as the platform continues to grow.
About the Role
This is a hands-on technical leadership role.
You will lead an existing team of backend/application developers, AI developers, mobile developers and software testers.
We are looking for a doer and problem solver; not someone who only manages, advises or delegates.
You will provide technical direction and architecture while remaining close to the technology: reviewing code, investigating complex problems, working with databases and APIs, understanding AWS infrastructure, improving testing and CI/CD, and personally stepping in when senior technical involvement is required.
Your role is not to build everything yourself. It is to ensure the team makes sound technical decisions, understands system-wide dependencies and delivers high-quality engineering outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Architecture & Ownership
Own the technical architecture across applications, APIs, databases, services and infrastructure.
Understand system-wide dependencies and the impact of technical changes.
Guide architecture, database, API and integration decisions.
Identify and prioritise technical debt and architectural improvements.
Maintain appropriate architecture and dependency documentation.
Ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure and practical.
Hands-On Engineering & Problem Solving
Remain actively involved with the technology and codebase.
Investigate complex technical problems and identify root causes.
Review important code changes and pull requests.
Debug issues across applications, databases, APIs and infrastructure.
Prototype or implement critical components when required.
Establish strong engineering and code-review practices.
Engineering Team Leadership
Lead developers, testers and other technical resources.
Establish clear ownership across backend, web, desktop, mobile and AI development.
Guide and mentor engineers on architecture and implementation.
Improve accountability, technical standards and collaboration.
Help identify future technical skills and resource requirements.
Quality, Testing & Releases
Establish automated testing and regression practices.
Strengthen unit, API, integration and end-to-end testing.
Implement effective CI/CD quality controls.
Improve code review, release readiness and deployment verification.
Establish monitoring, rollback, incident management and Root Cause Analysis practices.
Ensure quality is built into the development lifecycle rather than left until final testing.
SaaS, Cloud & DevOps
Provide technical oversight across:
Multi-tenant SaaS architecture and data isolation
Authentication, authorisation, roles and permissions
AWS, Linux, S3 and IAM
Databases, Redis, queues and background processing
APIs, integrations and real-time services
CI/CD and deployment automation
Development, staging and production environments
Logging, monitoring and alerts
Backups and disaster recovery
Security and secrets management
Performance and scalability
You are not expected to perform every routine DevOps task personally, but you must have sufficient hands-on experience to understand, troubleshoot and step in when required.

Technical Documentation
Own the structure and quality of documentation covering architecture, APIs, databases, infrastructure, deployments and system dependencies.
You may use AI and supporting technical/business analysis resources to maintain documentation. The objective is clear and useful technical knowledge - not unnecessary bureaucracy.
Required:
8-10 years of software engineering experience.
Experience as a Senior Engineer, Technical Lead or Software Architect.
Strong hands-on software engineering background.
Production SaaS and multi-tenant architecture experience.
Strong backend/API and relational database knowledge.
PHP/Laravel experience strongly preferred.
Practical AWS/cloud and DevOps experience.
CI/CD and deployment automation.
Redis, queues and background processing.
Authentication, authorisation and application security.
Automated testing and quality engineering.
Production monitoring and troubleshooting.
Git-based development workflows.
Experience leading and mentoring developers.
