This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Engineering Manager - Virtual Appliance Platform based in India.
Lead a distributed engineering team responsible for a critical customer-deployed virtual appliance connecting private environments with cloud-based services.
Own engineering execution, team development, delivery predictability, and the platform’s technical evolution.
Work closely with Product, Security, Architecture, Support, and Release Engineering to deliver reliable customer outcomes.
Guide a team working across Linux, virtualization, containerization, vulnerability management, and customer-deployed software.
Balance roadmap delivery with operational priorities, incident response, security remediation, and platform reliability.
Champion modern AI and LLM capabilities to improve engineering quality, decision-making, and delivery efficiency.

Accountabilities
Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a distributed team of software engineers, establishing clear expectations, ownership, feedback, and career-development goals.
Take ownership of engineering execution, delivery reporting, dependency management, risk communication, staffing, and team development.
Partner with Product Management and technical stakeholders to shape roadmap priorities, sequencing, stabilization initiatives, and customer-focused outcomes.
Establish and continuously improve a predictable two-week Scrum cadence covering backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and commitment tracking.
Oversee the complete lifecycle of customer-deployed software, including architecture, development, distribution, installation, upgrades, patching, compatibility, diagnostics, vulnerability remediation, reliability, and incident response.
Guide architectural and technical decisions across Linux-based virtual appliances, virtualization, containerization, and systems-oriented software.
Coordinate with security, vulnerability management, release engineering, support, architecture, and other engineering teams to resolve complex dependencies and operational risks.
Strengthen production ownership through effective incident response, learning reviews, vulnerability remediation, and follow-through on reliability improvements.
Develop and execute hiring and team-capacity plans aligned with the product roadmap and evolving technical requirements.
Establish measurable delivery and reliability baselines, monitor progress, and communicate performance, risks, and opportunities to senior stakeholders.
Introduce responsible AI- and LLM-assisted engineering workflows that improve quality, efficiency, decision-making, and business outcomes.
Develop a multi-quarter technical strategy supporting platform modernization, architectural evolution, stability, supportability, and scalability.
Foster strong customer, product, security, and reliability mindsets across the engineering organization.
Requirements
8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 5 years managing and developing software engineers.
Proven experience leading teams responsible for customer-installed applications, virtual appliances, connectors, gateways, or comparable software deployed within customer-managed environments.
Experience building or managing software that securely connects customer environments with cloud-based SaaS services.
Strong technical understanding of Linux, virtualization, and containerization, with the ability to read and understand code and contribute effectively to architecture and design discussions.
Experience managing the lifecycle of customer-deployed software, including distribution, upgrades, patching, compatibility, diagnostics, vulnerability remediation, and incident response.
Demonstrated success implementing and improving Agile/Scrum practices that create predictable delivery while maintaining flexibility for urgent customer and operational requirements.
Experience hiring, mentoring, managing performance, and supporting the professional development of engineering teams.
Strong planning, reporting, communication, stakeholder-management, and cross-functional coordination capabilities.
Experience leading distributed teams and collaborating effectively across multiple time zones.
Hands-on familiarity with modern AI and LLM tools, including reusable skills and agentic workflows, with sound judgment about when to use agents, skills, or conversational assistants.
Strong customer-centric, product-oriented, security-conscious, and reliability-focused mindset.
Familiarity with Go or other systems-oriented software development environments is valuable.
Experience with Linux-based virtual appliances, multiple Linux distributions, virtualization, and container technologies is strongly relevant.
Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent professional experience.
Ability to work remotely from India with substantial daily overlap with U.S. working hours.
