An Assistant Manager – Taxation is responsible for supervising end-to-end execution of tax compliances, handling litigation representation, monitoring team deliverables, and ensuring timely and high-quality client service delivery.
The role acts as an operational anchor between execution teams and managerial leadership, with ownership of daily engagement monitoring, client communication tracking, and quality review processes.
Qualification-
CA Inter cleared / CA Final Dropout / Semi-qualified CA
2–4 years relevant experience in Direct and Indirect Taxation (preferably in CA firm environment)
Roles & Responsibilities1. Tax Compliance & Execution
Preparation and review of Income Tax Returns for Individuals, Firms, LLPs, Companies, Trusts, and other entities.
Handling GST compliance, including return filings, reconciliations, and periodic compliance reviews
Preparation and review of TDS/TCS returns and reconciliation statements.
Preparation and review of tax audit reports and supporting documentation.
Preparation of tax computations, advance tax workings, and tax impact analysis.
Conduct reconciliation reviews, including GST vs Books, TDS vs Books, and Income Tax vs Financial Statements.
Maintain proper working papers, compliance records, and documentation standards.
2. Litigation & Representation
Handle tax notices, scrutiny assessments, departmental queries and appellate proceedings.
Draft submissions, replies, and representation documents before tax authorities.
Support partners and managers in complex litigation and advisory assignments.
Track litigation status and maintain documentation records.
3. Operational Supervision & Quality Control
Supervise work executed by analysts, interns and articled assistants.
Act as the first escalation point for execution bottlenecks and department-level issues.
Monitor compliance calendars, task trackers, and statutory deadlines.
Conduct preliminary review of team output before managerial review.
Ensure adherence to firm SOPs, checklists, and quality review frameworks.
4. Client Coordination & Communication Management
Coordinate with client teams for data collection, clarifications and follow-ups.
Track client deliverables, documentation requirements and compliance status.
Participate in audit meetings, discussions and engagement reviews with clients.
Ensure effective communication and timely resolution of client queries.
5. Team Guidance & Development
Guide interns, articled assistants, and analysts in execution methodology.
Conduct internal technical knowledge sharing sessions.
Support team skill development and performance improvement initiatives.
6. Reporting & Engagement Monitoring
Track engagement progress and highlight delays, risks or resource gaps to Managers/Partners.
Maintain task logs, compliance trackers, and documentation records.
Support preparation of MIS and engagement performance reports.
7. Learning, Research & Skill Development
Stay updated with amendments in Income Tax, GST, and regulatory laws.
Research emerging tax issues and prepare technical summaries or presentations.
Develop proficiency in tax filing utilities, ERP systems, and MS Office tools.
Strengthen domain and cross-domain understanding continuously.
Skills & Knowledge Required
Technical Competencies
Strong understanding of Direct Tax and GST laws
Knowledge of TDS/TCS provisions
Experience in tax return preparation, compliance review, and litigation handling
Working knowledge of tax audit procedures
Ability to analyse reconciliations and identify tax exposure risks
Functional Competencies
Proficiency in MS Excel, tax utilities, ERP/accounting software and AI tools
Strong analytical and review capability
Deadline management and compliance calendar monitoring
Task tracking, delegation monitoring and execution supervision
Ability to identify execution risks and escalate appropriately
Strong drafting, documentation and working paper discipline
Experience in maintaining compliance trackers, MIS and reporting controls
