Key responsibilities
In this role, you will support ABB's process control systems at customer sites, in accordance with ABB standard processes, quality standards and safety guidelines, acting as the technical point of contact while delivering quality and customer satisfaction.
This role is contributing to the Automation Business Area in Ratingen. Main stakeholders are ABB customers and internal ABB teams.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Performing service tasks such as installation and commissioning of equipment, identifying technical problems and conducting analysis through remote or on-site activities (installation and commissioning, routine maintenance, extensions, replacements, etc.)
Providing on-site or remote technical support in the event of process control system/automation malfunctions, and enhancing and modernizing existing systems
Consulting with and advising customers on the best service solutions, while building and maintaining strong customer relationships
Actively participating in automation projects from installation through programming and commissioning at the customer site, and troubleshooting equipment failures to prevent recurrence
Qualifications for the role
Completed qualification as a technician (staatlich geprüfter Techniker) or currently pursuing this qualification is required; a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering (with sufficient electrical engineering content) is preferred
Several years of experience in automation technology, ideally with ABB control systems such as 800xA, AC800M, Freelance or Melody
Sound knowledge of and hands-on experience in servicing, maintaining, commissioning and repairing
Confident and professional occurrence with strong communication skills, an analytical and connected way of thinking, and a strong motivation for continuous learning
Willingness to travel around 30%, higher in the first year (valid driving license required) primarily to customers within the region; overnight stays are the exception, given the regional customer base
Good IT knowledge of Windows operating systems, PC hardware, network technology and cybersecurity
Fluency in German with good written and spoken English
