Job Description
As manager of the Platform Management team within CMI Engineering, you'll lead the team that keeps our survey platforms running. Your team owns the CMI survey platforms along with the third-party services and contracts that power our data collection process. You'll inherit a high-performing group of 8–10 SREs and engineers with deep expertise in survey and market research platforms. You will serve as the accountable owner for platform reliability.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of 8–10 SREs and engineers responsible for the availability, performance, and reliability of CMI survey platforms
Own the operational health of survey data collection systems — uptime, incident response, capacity, and change management
Ensure platforms meet security, privacy, and data governance requirements (including respondent data handling)
Manage relationships, contracts, and SLAs with third-party vendors and services that support the data collection pipeline
Partner with product, data science, and operations stakeholders to align platform roadmaps with survey and panel requirements
Plan and prioritize work across run-the-business support and platform modernization
Work directly with Operations to manage budget and vendor spend for platform tooling and third-party services
Hire, coach, and grow engineers; conduct performance reviews and career development planning
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
12+ years of overall experience in Software Engineering
7+ years in software, infrastructure, or platform engineering roles
Experience operating within budget ownership and annual planning cycles
Ability to lead distributed or hybrid teams across time zones
3+ years managing technical teams (SRE, DevOps, platform, or infrastructure engineering)
Strong background in site reliability or platform engineering: monitoring/observability, incident management, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code
Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Vendor and contract management — negotiating, evaluating, and holding third parties to SLAs
Proven ability to balance operational stability with delivery of platform improvements
Clear communication with both engineering teams and non-technical business stakeholders
Experience managing production systems that support business-critical data flows
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with survey, panel, or market research platforms (e.g., Unicom Intelligence, Qualtrics, Decipher, Confirmit, or comparable)
Familiarity with data collection pipelines and data quality controls
Background supporting global, multi-region operations
Experience driving platform migrations or consolidation efforts
