Lead Software Engineer
Fully Remote (UK based only)
Paying up to £80k
Oliver Bernard have partnered with a multinational organisation that has built an autonomous software engineering function operating with the culture and pace of a scale-up.
Over the last few years, the engineering team has grown significantly and now consists of multiple cross-functional product squads delivering innovative digital products used at scale. They are looking for an experienced Lead Software Engineer to help shape technical strategy, mentor engineers, and remain hands-on with complex software delivery.
What You'll Be Doing
Leading the design and development of scalable backend services and APIs.
Setting technical direction across product teams.
Driving architectural decisions, engineering standards, and platform improvements.
Mentoring and line managing around 3-5 engineers while supporting their technical and career growth.
Partnering closely with Product and Delivery teams from discovery through to production.
Championing engineering best practices, system reliability, and continuous improvement.
Tech Environment
You'll work across a modern cloud-native ecosystem including:
Python
FastAPI / Flask
TypeScript / JavaScript
React / Angular
PostgreSQL
Docker & Kubernetes
Public Cloud (AWS, Azure or GCP experience welcomed)
Modern CI/CD tooling
We're Looking For
7+ years working in software development with a strong backend focus, ideally in Python.
Experience designing and scaling distributed systems and production APIs.
Strong understanding of cloud architecture, containerisation and modern engineering practices.
Previous technical leadership experience, including mentoring and managing engineers.
Ability to balance technical excellence with product and business objectives.
Strong stakeholder management experience
Comfortable influencing architecture and engineering direction across multiple teams.
