About The Role
EdgeConneX is seeking a technically deep, delivery-oriented electrical engineer to serve as Senior Electrical Engineer for the Americas within the Global Design & Engineering (GD&E) organization. This role is the senior regional electrical authority — accountable for the integrity of electrical design, equipment validation, and energization outcomes across a portfolio of assigned campuses — and carries a distinct additional mandate: serving as GD&E's designated engineering interface to the EdgeConneX behind-the-meter power and onsite generation organization (the "BTM team").
GD&E delivers safe, reliable, and cost-effective data center infrastructure by setting world-class design standards, driving disciplined program execution, and partnering seamlessly with internal teams and an external execution partner. Within GD&E, the Senior Electrical Engineer sits inside the Americas regional pillar, supported by the Principal Electrical Engineer in Technical Strategy & Architecture, who owns the global electrical architecture and standards. The Senior Electrical Engineer is how that architecture becomes validated, energized, performing infrastructure in the field — and how it stays coherent as onsite generation reshapes where the meter sits.
The role is positioned above the regional Electrical SME baseline and below the Principal Electrical Engineer. Like the regional SME, this engineer engages at the milestones where deep electrical expertise decides outcomes — design reviews, factory acceptance tests, protection studies, energization. Unlike the baseline SME role, the Senior Electrical Engineer additionally owns the technical coordination between data center electrical infrastructure and behind-the-meter generation schemes: ensuring that onsite generation topologies, interconnection points, protection philosophies, and energization sequences are properly reflected in — and compatible with — the campus electrical design.
This role operates inside a one-team site model. At each campus, the Technical Program Manager (TPM) owns the technical deliverables and the Delivery Manager (DM) is accountable for project execution, cost, and schedule from construction start. The Senior Electrical Engineer is the discipline specialist who supports that site team — and, where a campus includes an onsite generation component, the engineer who ensures the two programs converge on one buildable, protectable, energizable electrical system.
The ideal candidate is first and foremost a data center / critical infrastructure electrical engineer, with genuine working experience in power generation — prime or standby generation plants, generator paralleling and controls, grid and behind-the-meter interconnection. The generation background exists to make coordination credible, not to make this a power plant design role. They are equally comfortable challenging a protection coordination study, witnessing a FAT, walking an interconnection single-line with the BTM team, and telling a site team that an energization plan is not ready — clearly, credibly, and with a path to resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Electrical Leadership & Technical Authority
Serve as the senior electrical discipline authority across the portfolio of assigned campuses in the Americas, ensuring electrical designs, installations, and energization outcomes conform to the standards, guidelines, and templates set by Technical Strategy & Architecture.
Engage at the milestones where deep electrical expertise matters most — design reviews, submittal and RFI resolution on critical electrical scope, factory acceptance tests (FAT), protection and coordination study reviews, commissioning readiness assessments, and energization.
Hold the technical position on electrical readiness — validate that distribution systems, protection schemes, and energization plans are sound before each phase proceeds, supporting the TPM/DM site team rather than working in parallel to it.
Identify where site-specific constraints or customer requirements demand a departure from the electrical standard, and route deviations through the established Technical Strategy & Architecture approval process.
Provide informal technical leadership and mentoring to regional Electrical SMEs, raising the consistency and rigor of electrical reviews across the Americas portfolio.
BTM Team Interface — Behind-the-Meter Power & Onsite Generation
Serve as GD&E's designated engineering interface to the BTM team, ensuring the two organizations operate from one shared technical picture at every campus where onsite generation is in scope.
Coordinate the electrical integration of onsite generation into campus infrastructure — interconnection topology, point-of-coupling definition, protection philosophy and relay coordination across the meter boundary, grounding and fault current implications, paralleling and load transfer schemes, and islanding / grid-transition behavior.
Represent data center design intent, redundancy requirements, and reliability standards in onsite generation discussions — ensuring generation schemes support, and never compromise, the facility's availability model and customer commitments.
Ensure onsite generation milestones and dependencies (interconnection agreements, generation commissioning, utility transition sequences) are visible to the site TPM/DM team and reflected in campus energization planning.
Translate between the two domains in both directions: bring generation constraints and timelines into GD&E design and delivery decisions early, and bring GD&E standards, deviation governance, and commissioning expectations into the BTM team's project development.
Design Review & Standards Compliance
Review and challenge electrical engineering deliverables produced by the execution partner — single-lines, equipment specifications, protection studies, arc flash analyses, cable and raceway design, and grounding systems — for conformance with GD&E standards and sound engineering practice.
Validate that customer-specific electrical requirements are correctly captured in design and reconciled with the EdgeConneX standard, escalating conflicts through the deviation process rather than resolving them informally.
Feed field and interconnection lessons learned back to the Principal Electrical Engineer so the global electrical standard improves with every campus delivered — including the maturing standard position on behind-the-meter integration.
Vendor & Equipment Validation
Lead electrical vendor and equipment validation for assigned campuses — witnessing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for switchgear, UPS systems, generators, and other critical electrical equipment, and confirming that what was validated in the factory is what performs in the field.
Support Legal & Procurement with technical input on electrical equipment specifications, vendor evaluations, and contract exhibits, including generation-related scope where the interface demands it.
Commissioning & Energization Support
Support the Commissioning Lead (Cx SME) and site teams through electrical system startup, functional testing, Integrated Systems Testing (IST), and energization — with particular ownership of energization sequences that involve utility and behind-the-meter sources.
Drive electrical technical issue resolution during commissioning to closure, engaging the Principal Electrical Engineer where deeper architectural judgment is required.
Confirm electrical readiness criteria are met before a facility — or a generation-integrated electrical system — is declared Ready for Service (RFS).
