Business Analyst

We’re looking for a highly analytical and independent Business Acquisition Researcher to
support a search-fund style acquisition process. This role will focus on researching small
businesses in targeted industries and building a pipeline of well-researched, call-ready
acquisition opportunities. The ideal candidate will be skilled at evaluating businesses using available information, identifying strong acquisition targets, and clearly summarizing findings so the principal can efficiently determine which business owners to contact.

Qualifications:
● Exceptional English communication skills, both written and verbal (C1 level
Minimum).
● Enthusiastic, positive attitude, eager to work with others and solve problems.
● Previous experience in M&A, corporate development, investment banking, private equity, search fund investing, or a similar field involving the screening or evaluation of small businesses.
● Strong proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office.
● Strong research skills and the ability to locate and evaluate information from public records, licensing databases, LinkedIn, trade groups, and other sources.
● Ability to estimate a company's size and potential profitability using indirect indicators such as employee count, fleet size, years in business, and other industry-specific information.
● Strong independent judgment and the ability to form a clear opinion about whether a business may be a strong acquisition target.
● Strong written communication skills and the ability to summarize a business clearly and
concisely.
● Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate research and company information.
● Ability to evaluate businesses based on factors including industry growth, technology
disruption, customer concentration, recurring revenue, supplier dependence, and competitive advantages.
Responsibilities:
● Research and identify small businesses within targeted industries and geographic markets.
● Build and maintain a pipeline of fully researched, call-ready acquisition opportunities in the shared Acquisition Pipeline Tracker.
● Conduct initial screening based on factors such as company size, years in business, location, and other target criteria before conducting deeper research.
● Research businesses using public records, licensing databases, trade groups, LinkedIn, and other available sources.
● Estimate company size and potential profitability using available business indicators when financial statements are not yet available.
● Identify business owners and determine the best available contact information.
● Prepare concise business summaries that allow the principal to understand each opportunity before contacting the owner.
● Evaluate and score potential acquisition targets against the established six-point criteria and provide clear reasoning for the evaluation.
● Prepare short follow-up emails for the principal to send when an owner cannot be reached by phone.
● Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in the shared Acquisition Pipeline Tracker.
● Communicate regularly with the principal to provide progress updates, share findings, and adjust the search strategy as needed.
● Identify potential targets with characteristics such as recurring revenue, diversified customers, growing industries, competitive advantages, and limited exposure to technological disruption.
● Support the development of a consistent and organized pipeline of potential acquisition
opportunities.
