Payroll Accountant - remote (ideally located in southeast US)
We are seeking a Payroll & Benefits Accountant to handle all payroll and benefits accounting, financial reporting, reconciliation, labor cost analysis and compliance support. The Payroll & Benefits Accountant will hold responsibility for maintaining general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate regulatory reporting and managing payroll-related internal controls.
The company is unionized and the payroll process includes full-cycle CBA with all comp and benefits included in the agreement. Familiarity with certified payroll reporting, prevailing wage requirements, and the allocation of union labor costs to jobs and projects would be ideal. ß this experience is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage payroll and benefits accounting: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, expense analysis, and resolution of account discrepancies
Administer benefits-related accounting processes, including invoice reconciliations, employer contributions, accruals, and employee deduction reporting
Reconcile payroll taxes, benefit deductions, garnishments, labor burden accounts, union benefits, certified payroll, plus related balance sheet and general ledger accounts
Partner with Finance and Human Resources, ensuring accurate payroll and benefits administration accounting and compliance with reporting requirements
Support audits, benefit plan reporting, and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
CPA, CPP or equivalent preferred
3+ years of experience with significant exposure to complex, multi-state payroll accounting
Fringe benefit costs, pension obligations and union-related payroll and benefits accounts
Knowledge of labor burden calculations, including wages, taxes, union benefits and employer-paid fringe contributions.
