About Us
We are a globally focused organization committed to developing advanced energy technologies that support cleaner, more efficient, and resilient power and mobility solutions. Our teams combine engineering, research, manufacturing, operations, commercial, safety, and technology expertise to develop and deploy scalable fuel cell systems.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Fuel Cell Manager to lead the development, engineering, testing, manufacturing, deployment, and continuous improvement of fuel cell technologies and systems.
The ideal candidate will manage multidisciplinary fuel cell programs covering technology development, stack and balance-of-plant integration, performance optimization, validation, reliability, manufacturing scale-up, supplier management, and commercial deployment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement fuel cell technology strategies aligned with organizational and commercial objectives.
Lead fuel cell development programs from concept, feasibility, and technology selection through validation, production, and deployment.
Manage multidisciplinary teams across electrochemistry, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, controls, materials, manufacturing, testing, and systems engineering.
Evaluate fuel cell technologies including PEM, SOFC, AFC, PAFC, and other applicable architectures.
Define fuel cell system requirements based on application, operating environment, power requirements, efficiency targets, and lifecycle expectations.
Lead fuel cell stack and system architecture development.
Coordinate design of membrane electrode assemblies, catalysts, membranes, gas diffusion layers, bipolar plates, seals, manifolds, and stack components where applicable.
Manage balance-of-plant systems including air supply, hydrogen delivery, humidification, cooling, thermal management, water management, pumps, valves, sensors, and controls.
Develop system specifications, performance requirements, interface definitions, and design standards.
Coordinate electrochemical, thermal, mechanical, electrical, and fluid-dynamic analyses.
Establish performance targets for power density, efficiency, degradation, durability, operating range, and system availability.
Lead prototype development, laboratory testing, system integration, and performance validation.
Develop test plans covering polarization curves, efficiency, power output, transient response, durability, degradation, environmental performance, and safety.
Coordinate fuel cell stack testing under varying temperature, pressure, humidity, load, and fuel conditions.
Analyze electrochemical and system-performance data to identify degradation mechanisms and improvement opportunities.
Lead investigations into stack degradation, catalyst loss, membrane failure, flooding, drying, corrosion, contamination, sealing issues, and other failure modes.
Conduct root-cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions.
Establish fuel cell durability, reliability, and lifecycle testing programs.
Coordinate accelerated stress testing and long-duration endurance testing.
Develop validation and qualification requirements for stacks, subsystems, and complete fuel cell systems.
Manage integration of fuel cell systems into vehicles, stationary power systems, backup power systems, industrial applications, or other target platforms.
Coordinate interfaces with hydrogen supply, electrical systems, thermal systems, energy-management systems, batteries, inverters, and other power electronics.
Optimize hybrid fuel cell and battery architectures where applicable.
Support system controls development, power management, startup and shutdown strategies, fault handling, and protective functions.
Coordinate software, embedded controls, sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
Lead design reviews, prototype reviews, validation reviews, and production-readiness assessments.
Support manufacturing scale-up from laboratory and prototype production to pilot and commercial manufacturing.
Develop manufacturing processes for stacks and fuel cell system assembly.
Establish process controls for catalyst coating, MEA assembly, bipolar plate production, sealing, stacking, compression, assembly, and end-of-line testing where applicable.
Monitor manufacturing yield, defect rates, process capability, cycle time, and production efficiency.
Implement SPC, DOE, Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous-improvement methods.
Coordinate supplier qualification for membranes, catalysts, electrodes, plates, seals, gaskets, sensors, compressors, pumps, valves, and other critical components.
Evaluate suppliers based on quality, technical capability, capacity, cost, reliability, and supply continuity.
Establish component qualification, incoming inspection, traceability, and quality requirements.
Manage engineering changes, configuration control, design revisions, and product lifecycle documentation.
Support certification, regulatory approvals, product safety, and applicable fuel cell standards.
Coordinate safety assessments covering hydrogen handling, high voltage, pressure systems, thermal hazards, gas detection, ventilation, and emergency shutdown.
Develop operating, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and emergency-response procedures.
Monitor deployed fuel cell systems and analyze field performance, reliability, degradation, and customer feedback.
Establish remote monitoring and predictive-maintenance capabilities for deployed systems.
Manage field failures, warranty investigations, technical support, and corrective actions.
Evaluate emerging materials, catalysts, membranes, manufacturing processes, system architectures, and fuel cell technologies.
Assess opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce precious-metal loading, increase power density, extend lifetime, and reduce system cost.
Develop technology roadmaps and recommend investments in research, development, equipment, and infrastructure.
Manage technical budgets, development schedules, resources, risks, and project milestones.
Prepare technical reports, management updates, performance dashboards, investment proposals, and technology assessments.
Collaborate with customers, research institutions, universities, OEMs, suppliers, certification bodies, and technology partners.
Protect intellectual property and maintain appropriate controls over proprietary fuel cell designs, materials, processes, and technical data.
Promote continuous improvement across fuel cell technology, engineering, manufacturing, reliability, and operational performance.
