About Us:
The DATUM Project (thedatumproject.com), an initiative by the architecture startup Arcedo, is building an open architectural material matrix and comprehensive site analysis platform designed for students and practitioners. We are bridging the gap between architectural design, material science, and software by creating accessible, open-source tools and data structures for the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) community.
The Role:
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Student Researcher Intern to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in expanding our open architectural material database and refining our site analysis tools. You will work at the intersection of architectural research and data structuring, helping to gather, clean, and organize complex building data so it can be easily accessed by architects and students worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
Material & Site Research: Conduct in-depth research on building materials, their properties, and environmental impacts to populate and expand the DATUM material matrix.
Data Structuring & Organization: Assist in compiling, cleaning, and structuring large datasets (working with spreadsheet data and basic data pipelines) to ensure they integrate smoothly with our web platform.
User & Platform Testing: Help evaluate the platform's user experience from the perspective of an architecture student or practitioner, providing feedback on features like site analysis tools and database searchability.
Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with the development team to understand how architectural data translates into web interfaces (HTML/CSS/Go) and BIM tools (like Revit plugins).
Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled or recently graduated in an undergraduate or graduate program in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Urban Design, or a related field.
* Strong analytical skills and a genuine interest in architectural technology, building materials, and site analysis methodologies.
* High attention to detail and experience working with spreadsheets or databases for organizing information.
* Bonus (but not required): Familiarity with scripting or data cleaning (e.g., Python), web development basics, or experience with BIM software APIs (like Revit).
