Role Description The Freelance Rotoprep Artist at SHADOWFX will be responsible for roto and prep work on live-action plates, including creating detailed mattes, removing unwanted elements, and preparing shots for compositing. Day-to-day tasks include tracing and isolating characters and objects, cleaning up backgrounds, tracking and stabilizing footage, and ensuring clean edges and accurate motion in every frame. The artist will collaborate with compositors and the VFX supervisor to understand shot requirements, follow naming conventions and pipeline standards, and deliver work within scheduled timelines. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Mumbai, requiring consistent presence at the studio, adherence to production workflows, and effective communication with the team.
Qualifications
Strong proficiency in roto and paint/prep techniques using industry-standard tools (e.g., Silhouette, Mocha, Nuke, or similar software).
Solid understanding of VFX pipelines, compositing fundamentals, tracking, and keying concepts.
Ability to interpret shot briefs, maintain consistent quality across sequences, and follow technical specifications and naming conventions.
Good visual judgment with attention to detail, clean edge work, and accurate motion, including understanding of anatomy and perspective.
Effective time management skills, ability to work to deadlines, and willingness to take and implement feedback in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work professionally in an on-site team setting in Mumbai.
Previous experience in a VFX studio or post-production environment preferred; relevant coursework or training in animation, VFX, or related fields is beneficial.
Portfolio or showreel demonstrating roto and prep work on live-action footage required.
