We are seeking an experienced Head of Payroll to lead and oversee the company’s payroll operations across the organization. This role will be responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing while improving payroll systems, controls, and processes.
The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, Human Resources, Benefits, and senior leadership to ensure employees are paid accurately and payroll activities comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead end-to-end payroll operations for employees across multiple locations.
* Ensure accurate and timely processing of weekly, biweekly, or monthly payroll.
* Oversee payroll taxes, deductions, benefits, garnishments, and reconciliations.
* Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
* Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls.
* Review payroll reports and investigate discrepancies.
* Manage payroll systems, vendors, and third-party payroll providers.
* Partner with HR and Finance to ensure accurate employee data and payroll reporting.
* Support payroll audits and year-end activities, including W-2 preparation.
* Identify opportunities to automate and improve payroll processes.
* Lead, mentor, and develop payroll team members.
* Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive employee and payroll information.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
* 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
* Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
* Experience managing multi-state payroll operations.
* Proficiency with payroll systems and HRIS platforms.
* Strong knowledge of payroll reconciliation, reporting, taxes, and compliance.
* Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication and leadership abilities.
* CPP certification is preferred.
