Project Engineer

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Produces technical take-offs for opportunities being estimated, including BOMs and Labor estimates based on the client’s bid documents.
Participates alongside a project’s PM in the kickoff of new projects, gathering an understanding of the project’s scope of work and schedule to adequately lead the engineering aspects of the project.
Reads a Scope of Work for a system and has an understanding of what is required or be willing and able to ask logical questions of the lead to get clarification.
Produces and manages a project’s Design Workbook / Controls Manifest.
Communicates project requirements to other engineers working on the project.
Verifies design, drawings, programs, emulation, and all deliverables are aligned with project scope.
Designs work including electrical schematics, power circuit and control circuit sizing and loading, SCCR calculations, thermal calculations for control panels, and control panel interior & exterior design and layouts.
Follows Kasa design & sizing procedures as well as NEC (NFPA 70) and UL508A requirements and any other project specific code requirements. Assist with and perform formal electrical drawing quality control processes such as yellow lines for drafting accuracy or red lines for content. Follows document control procedures for revisions, submittals, and Kasa design process flow.
Develops PLC programs and HMI programs.
Develops data structures, program efficiencies, upper level programming for system control, monitoring and status displays.
Creates parameter files for DeviceNet Cards, VFDs, ArmorStarts, and other devices as applicable.
Has a working knowledge of all relevant communication protocols such as Ethernet IP, Modbus, ProfiBus, ProfiNet, etc., pertinent to the industry work they are working on.
Industrial network configuration and setup for different communication protocols.
Debugs and tests control systems at the customer's facility (start-up/stand-by).
Works alone or with project team and communicate well with the project lead and or project manager.
Writes operations manuals, user manuals, O&M manuals, etc.
Calculate arc-flash using the IEEE methodology for provided electrical equipment, order and install labelling as required.
Develops checkout and validation forms for Factory Acceptance tests and on-site commissioning and all required documentation on projects per the Kasa Process Manual.
On-site startup and commissioning of systems. May involve 10 to 20 hour shifts per day as required to meet specific start-up schedules. Sufficiently independent and capable of starting up a system without assistance. Coordinates the startup efforts for the team and ensures team members are proficient with the implementation plan and budget pre-mobilization.
Attends and actively participates in project meetings.
Basic level of understanding of UL508A for industrial control panels.
Understands and follows Kasa Standard Operating Procedures.
Manages large jobs, typically requiring a team of engineers.
Ensures that the information, such as drawings, programs, HMI screens, documentation and bills of materials are accurate and complete prior to advancing in the workflow.
Verifies accuracy of as-built deliverables and may assist with submitting final deliverables to customer.
Effectively engages with customers as needed on projects.
Leadership
In charge of the technical and design execution of the project.
Assigns and delegates work to project personnel such as technical studies, electrical designs, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and testing. Confirms an acceptable level of quality in all delegated work.
Track and be able to report to management personnel the status of all project tasks.
Interfaces externally with customers and vendors. Represents Kasa well in these interactions.
Monitors project schedule and leads team to complete project tasks on schedule.
Monitors project labor budget and leads team to complete project tasks on budget.

Required Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year college or technical school; or five-years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years controls engineer experience.
Preferred Qualifications
PLC hardware and programming experience preferred.
Prior experience in the conveyor, material handling or related industries desired.
Work Environment:
This position operates in an office and job site setting. It routinely requires using standard office equipment, such as computer, phones, copiers, fax machines etc. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm, but are project work dependent. Occasional evenings and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Travel is required. Start-ups or job site setting hours will vary based on project and location. Field hours can vary from 10 to 20 hours per day in addition for the need to work weekends and 7 or more days in a row depending on specific start-up schedules on projects and customer demands, which can vary. Customer interaction is required. Frequently, startup situations become very stressful under deadlines to meet a customer’s schedule or to overcome a situation where our customer may not be satisfied with progress or performance that is out of our control. Engineers are expected to handle these situations in a calm and helpful manner.
Physical Demands:
Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to occasionally climb permanent and temporary stairs, climb ladders, negotiate work areas under construction, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally requires use of construction personnel hoists. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Performing this job regularly requires use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects in pocket, tools, or controls, sit, talk, hear, stand. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy weight. Employee must be capable of using tools, and able to help install equipment and make adjustments/modifications to that equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works on-site at the construction worksite where the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in this work environment can be moderate to very loud.
