Role Description The Fractional Controller role is a remote, contract position responsible for overseeing and improving clients’ accounting and financial operations on a part-time or project basis. Day-to-day tasks may include managing the general ledger, supervising month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. The Fractional Controller will analyze financial performance, develop budgets and forecasts, and provide actionable insights to support leadership in decision-making. Additional responsibilities include optimizing accounting workflows, coordinating with external auditors or tax advisors, and implementing best practices in internal controls and reporting. This role requires proactive communication with client stakeholders, clear documentation of processes, and the ability to manage multiple client engagements concurrently.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and GAAP or relevant accounting standards.
Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis to support strategic decisions.
Proficiency with accounting and ERP software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and monitor internal controls, policies, and standardized financial processes.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
Proven experience working remotely, managing multiple clients or projects, and meeting deadlines independently.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification is strongly preferred.
Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant, ideally in small to mid-sized organizations.
High level of integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to confidentiality and ethical financial practices.
