Job Summary
The Assistant Team Lead / Team Lead will be responsible for leading an underwriting operations team, ensuring high-quality risk assessment, productivity, SLA adherence, and process compliance. The role requires strong underwriting expertise, people management skills, and the ability to drive operational excellence while mentoring and developing team members.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and mentor a team of Underwriters to achieve productivity, quality, and turnaround time (TAT) targets.
Review and monitor underwriting decisions to ensure compliance with company guidelines and risk appetite.
Ensure accurate risk assessment and adherence to underwriting policies and regulatory requirements.
Monitor daily productivity, quality scores, and SLA/KPI performance.
Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and feedback discussions.
Handle underwriting escalations and support the team in resolving complex cases.
Identify process gaps and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Prepare and analyze MIS reports, productivity dashboards, and quality metrics.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including Quality, Training, Operations, and Business teams.
Support hiring, onboarding, training, and capability development of team members.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, audit requirements, and process guidelines.
Drive employee engagement and foster a high-performance team culture.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Life Insurance Underwriting Operations.
Minimum 1 year of experience as a Team Lead, Assistant Team Lead, Subject Matter Expert (SME), or in a supervisory role is preferred.
Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, medical and financial underwriting, fraud indicators, and underwriting guidelines.
