About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Location: Ota, Ogun State
Resumption: As soon as possible
Work Type: On-ground / highly hands-on
We are building something ambitious in Ota.
And we are looking for someone who doesn't just want a job — we are looking for someone who wants to build.
ABOUT SPOTLIGHT
Spotlight is a new talent discovery and entertainment platform being developed to discover, showcase and develop emerging musical talent.
The vision starts here in Ota, but it does not end here.
Our plan is to build Spotlight progressively across communities, cities and eventually countries — creating a platform where talented artists can gain visibility, audiences can discover new talent, venues can attract new audiences, and exceptional artists can potentially move into professional opportunities.
The platform will involve live talent competitions, venue partnerships, contestant registration, audience participation, voting, digital content, artist discovery and recurring events.
At the centre of the music-development side is Papa Joe, a professional music producer and the founder of Papa Joe Records.
We are now looking for a highly proactive Executive Assistant to Papa Joe — with a specific focus on Spotlight.
THE ROLE
This is not a traditional executive assistant role where your responsibilities are simply to manage calendars, answer emails and take notes.
You will be working closely with Papa Joe to turn the Spotlight vision into an operating reality.
You will be expected to take ideas, turn them into plans, make the necessary calls, schedule the meetings, follow up with people, coordinate activities and keep pushing until things actually happen.
You will essentially become the day-to-day execution partner for the Spotlight project.
WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
1. Venue & Partnership Development
You will identify and engage potential:
- Lounges
- Bars
- Entertainment venues
- Event spaces
- Businesses
- Potential sponsors
- Community partners
You will reach out, introduce Spotlight, arrange meetings, discuss partnership opportunities, follow up and help convert interested venues into active Spotlight partners.
You should be comfortable walking into a business, introducing yourself, explaining an idea and starting a conversation.
2. Event Coordination
You will help coordinate Spotlight events from conception to execution.
This includes:
- Identifying suitable venues
- Coordinating dates
- Scheduling meetings
- Confirming contestants
- Coordinating judges/hosts/performers where necessary
- Working with the media team
- Coordinating event logistics
- Following up with everyone involved
- Ensuring agreed tasks are completed
- Supporting event-day execution
You will not simply be told what to do at every step.
You are expected to see what needs to be done and take initiative.
3. Contestant & Talent Management
You will help build and maintain relationships with prospective contestants and emerging artists.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Communicating with contestants
- Coordinating registrations
- Confirming participation
- Sharing event information
- Maintaining contestant records
- Scheduling auditions/performances
- Following up with participants
- Coordinating contestant communications
- Maintaining relationships with promising talents after events
4. Spotlight Voting & Audience Engagement
Spotlight will involve audience participation and voting.
You will help coordinate the systems and processes required to:
- Organize voting periods
- Communicate voting information
- Track relevant timelines
- Follow up with contestants
- Coordinate announcements
- Work with Prime Orbit Media on audience engagement
- Ensure important deadlines are communicated clearly
You will work closely with the media team to ensure the competition remains active between physical events.
5. Executive Assistance to Papa Joe
You will also support Papa Joe directly in his work around Spotlight.
This can include:
- Scheduling meetings
- Managing follow-ups
- Coordinating appointments
- Preparing meeting information
- Maintaining task lists
- Following up on commitments
- Helping organize his Spotlight-related activities
- Keeping track of ongoing conversations and opportunities
- Making sure important things do not fall through the cracks
The goal is simple:
Help Papa Joe spend more time creating, producing and developing talent while you help make the operational side move.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are particularly interested in someone who is:
Proactive.
You don't need someone standing over you before you act.
Highly communicative.
You can speak confidently with business owners, artists, venue managers, young people, professionals and strangers.
Organized.
You can keep track of several conversations, deadlines, people and moving parts simultaneously.
Resourceful.
When you encounter a problem, your first response is not “I can't.” Your first response is “How can we solve this?”
Persuasive.
You can introduce an idea, communicate its value and get people interested.
Comfortable going outside.
This role will involve actual movement — meetings, venue visits, conversations and event preparation.
Technologically comfortable.
You should be able to work with tools such as WhatsApp, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, social media and other digital tools required for coordination.
A fast learner.
You may encounter things you've never done before. We need someone willing to learn quickly.
Independent-minded.
We want someone who can think for themselves, contribute ideas and challenge things respectfully when necessary.
Creative.
Spotlight is being built from the ground up. Your ideas matter.
Reliable.
When you say something will be done, we need to be able to trust that it will be followed through.
THE KIND OF PERSON WE WANT
We are not necessarily looking for someone with the most impressive CV.
We are looking for someone with drive, initiative, courage, communication ability and execution capacity.
You could be a recent graduate.
You could have worked in administration.
You could have experience in events.
You could have worked in entertainment.
You could have experience in sales, business development, customer relations, media, community management or project coordination.
What matters most is your ability to take responsibility and make things happen.
If you are the kind of person who sees an opportunity and immediately starts thinking:
«“How can we make this work?”»
you may be exactly who we are looking for.
A UNIQUE PART OF THIS ROLE
We are deliberately looking for someone who wants room to express themselves.
Spotlight is still being built.
That means you will not be entering an environment where every process has already been written down and your only job is to follow instructions.
There will be room to:
- Bring ideas
- Suggest new approaches
- Build relationships
- Experiment
- Solve problems
- Develop systems
- Take ownership of projects
- Grow with the platform
Your contribution can influence how Spotlight itself evolves.
We want an executor, but we also want a thinker.
